Why Choose Our Psychology Program?

Psychology courses at San Joaquin Delta College are designed to provide a survey of the many fields in Psychology. Students learn about the methods used in psychology, and creative approaches to problem solving on a personal basis as well as in greater society. Emphasis is placed on critical and analytical thinking.

The psychology faculty believe that the study of psychology involves acquiring knowledge about human and animal behavior as a basis for further study in advanced courses, as a basis for working with clients in a supervised therapy setting, and as a basis for being an informed citizen in our society. It is not just acquired knowledge, but also an understanding of the variety of behaviors that may lead to greater sensitivity and compassion toward the motives of other people. It may also result in greater insight into and acceptance of the reasons for one's own behavior and as a possible vehicle for change.
