McKenzie Vincelet

2023 Student Art Exhibition

Artist Statement:

My photography style is mostly black and white darkroom film off my little 35mm point and shoot Canon. I certainly felt the connection between me and the camera like we've known each other our whole lives. I simply started my photography journey in a little classroom at Lincoln High School and fell in love with the creative behind a lens to now haven taken many other photography classes at Delta College. It has led me to taking a camera everywhere I go and other dreams of becoming one day my generation Ansel Adams, Annie Lebovitz or even Bill Cunningham. They inspired me to look at the world in a different way with my camera and capture more than a moment but a story.

I have other influences such as places around me from the Bay Area of San Francisco and Half Moon Bay with other influences from the Sacramento Midtown neighborhood, and a little bit of my own neighborhood. I have different muses like the country-side, or the city, and even simple things like a boat or some chopped logs of wood but I try to look for vibrant colors even in my black and white film. My photos are a representation of stopping and smelling the roses and looking around at the simple giant rock as the waves crash against the shore.  I get lost with how black and white film makes you feel something that is abstract and striking but yet so simple at the same time.

My personal educational goals would be to go into the field of forensic science as a forensic Photographer. I am currently into my second year at San Joaquin Delta College taking photography art classes such as dark room film and digital photo. I am taking my general ed classes for my forensic science profession.
