Stockton Scholars announces scholarship expansion to reach all students across city
October 15, 2021

STOCKTON – Stockton Scholars, a program of the Reinvent Stockton Foundation, announced that the program will expand scholarship opportunities for all students attending public high schools in the City of Stockton.

The scholarships available will provide qualifying students graduating in the Class of 2022 with financial support to pursue all higher education pathways.

This expansion will be significant for San Joaquin Delta College, as over 500 students have received Stockton Scholars Scholarship support totaling $250,000. Through the expansion the program expects that number to double for the Class of 2022.

Previously, an abbreviated scholarship was avialable for seniors planning to attend a UC or a top private college such as Stanford or the University of Southern California

This expansion ensures that students throughout the city can receive scholarship support to pursue higher education once accepted to the program. The expansion will also allow for any high school senior graduating from a public high school in Stockton to be eligible to apply for the Stockton Scholars Scholarship.

Students who successfully apply and complete the scholarship verification process will receive scholarship money to pursue a degree at a two-year community college, a four-year college or university in the state of California, or to attend Historically Black Colleges or Universities and similar Minority Serving Institutions.

“We are thrilled to announce that Stockton Scholars will be expanding their reach. Our focus has always been to serve students throughout the City of Stockton. This expansion ensures that every student attending public high school in the city has access to the resources and opportunities they deserve,” said Janae Aptaker, Director of Stockton Scholars Program and Strategy. “Our hope is that one day, every high school senior in Stockton, can be a Stockton Scholar and know they have a group of people here to support them on their path through higher education.”

Stockton Scholars remains dedicated to its mission to guide young people to an impactful life through higher education. It is estimated that this expansion will open opportunities for an additional 2,500 Class of 2022 seniors attending a public high school in the City of Stockton including schools that are a part of Lincoln, Lodi, or Manteca unified school districts.

"Delta College has been a proud supporter of Stockton Scholars since its inception,” said Dr. Lonita Cordova, Delta’s Vice President of Student Services. “We know that a majority of their scholarship recipients attend Delta, and this expansion will allow even more students to take advantage. Stockton Scholars awards, in addition to other forms of financial aid such as free tuition for first-time, full-time college students, will lighten our students' financial burdens and help them cross the finish line."

Program applications for the Class of 2022 open on Friday, October 15, 2021. To learn more about the scholarship or the Stockton Scholars program or to apply visit StocktonScholars.org or call their student hotline (209) 800-8780
