The key to a seamless transfer is knowing how to use your resources. Successful transfer planning starts with understanding which general education and major prerequisite courses you need, meeting with a counselor to develop a comprehensive Student Education Plan (SEP), and connecting with university transfer representatives along the way. Use the resources below to stay informed, stay organized, and stay on track toward your transfer goals
General Education
The state has simplified general education requirements so that they are the same for both CSU and UC. You now have one pathway that works for both university systems. This is a change from the past, when the requirements for a CSU were slightly different than the requirements for a UC.
What do I need to know?
The new pathway is known as “Cal-GETC” and it replaces a pathway known as “IGETC.” You can find information about the Cal-GETC pathway, including a list of the courses you can take to satisfy each subject area, in the Delta College catalog:

This single pathway will make it easier to understand which courses you need, which may shorten the amount of time required to transfer!
When is this happening?
Cal-GETC took effect in Fall 2025. Students enrolling in Delta College for the first time in Fall 2025 should be following the new Cal-GETC pathway.
What if I was already following the old plan?
Don’t worry! If you were a student at Delta College prior to Fall 2025, you can still follow the old pathway. This is what’s known as “catalog rights.” It’s only fair that students who were previously enrolled at the College be able to finish a pathway they’ve already started. You also have the option to switch to the new Cal-GETC pathway. If you’re uncertain whether it’s best to follow the old pathway or the new pathway, we recommend checking with a counselor.

Articulation Agreements
Planning to transfer to a CSU, UC, or a private/independent college in California (AICCU)? ASSIST is California’s official transfer planning website. It shows how courses at your community college match up with requirements at the CSU, UC and AICCU campuses. You can look up your major and see exactly which classes you should take to stay on track for transfer. These course matches are called articulation agreements. An articulation agreement is a formal understanding between colleges that confirms a course you take here will meet a specific requirement at the university you plan to attend. This helps ensure you’re taking the right classes now so you can transfer smoothly later, without repeating coursework. It is important to meet with a counselor or a transfer representative for guidance, as agreements may vary by institution.

Basics of the Transfer Process
A brief overview of what you need to do to successfully transfer
- See a Counselor at least once a semester to serve as your guide to the transfer process.
- Your counselor can assist you in researching careers and majors that will fit with your personal interests and abilities.
- Research college campuses that have your selected major and fit the lifestyle you would like in a four-year college or university. Arrange to visit these institutions.
- Develop an educational plan with your Counselor that will serve as your map to transfer.
- Ascertain if the College or University you wish to attend has a guaranteed admission agreement that you can apply for with the help of your counselor.
- If appropriate, complete all prerequisite courses that must be taken prior to completion of your general education and major preparation coursework.
- Complete the appropriate general education pattern with the required GPA for the institution to which you plan to transfer.
- Complete the major preparation coursework with the required GPA, that will ready you for admission to your chosen major.
- Apply to the college or university of your choice within the posted deadlines for doing so. Failure to apply early in the application period may negatively effect your ability to transfer.
- Apply for you Associates Degree if applicable.
- Once you have been accepted to a college or university, have your general education pattern certified as completed by the evaluations office in admission and records office.
- Forward your spring (summer) semester grades to the college you will be attending as soon as they have been posted to your transcript.
- Follow all notices from the school you will be attending, making special note of any deadlines that may be approaching. Register for classes at the date and time assigned
