Fitch affirms Delta College’s financial strength

STOCKTON — In good news for local taxpayers, Fitch Ratings recently reaffirmed Delta College’s strong AA- credit rating and improved its overall outlook to “stable.” The announcement means Delta can sell its voter-approved Measure K bonds at lower interest rates, helping maximize taxpayer dollars. An AA- rating is Fitch’s second-highest category and signals “very high credit quality.” The improved outlook reflects Delta’s continued fiscal strength, including healthy reserves, stable-to-growing enrollment, and overall financial stability. The news comes as Delta College presses forward with the implementation of Measure K, a $598 million bond approved by voters in November 2024. Home at last: Delta College athletes return to revitalized fields

With fist pumps, cheers, and applause, Delta College athletes and the Delta community celebrated a homecoming of a different sort on Saturday as Delta's athletics fields officially reopened following two years of extensive upgrades. The projects, funded by voter-approved Measure L tax dollars, include state-of-the-art football, softball, and baseball fields, as well as a new track, all comprising the Chase Chevrolet Athletic Complex. "Today we celebrate more than new turf, track, and fields," said Delta College Superintendent/President Dr. Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson. "We celebrate an investment in student success, safety, and Mustang pride. Most of all, we celebrate our athletes returning home after two years of construction. "These facilities are a testament to our belief that athletics are not just about competition, but about teamwork, resilience, and excellence on and off the field." After decades participating in the the Library & Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County's annual Trivia Bee, the Delta College team stung the competition and brought home first place at the Oct. 13 event. It's the first time in the 29-year history of the event that Delta College scored the top prize. Congratulations to thje winning team: Prof. Harry Mersmann; Prof. Chloe Brotherton; Prof. Becky Plaza; and Trustee Dan Wright "It was tight, we had some competition... but in the end, we pulled ahead, and we won," said Plaza, a Delta College counselor. 'Every individual has the fundamental right to their identity,' trustees resolve

Delta College trustees on April 15, 2025 approved the following resolution "reaffirming (Delta's) support of undocumented and LGBTQIA+ students, and continuing to welcome, support and celebrate all as equal members of the college community and our broader society." Delta College trustees sworn in following election

STOCKTON – Four Delta College trustees were sworn in this week, officially launching or continuing their service on the College’s governing body. Three of the trustees – Dan Wright, Dr. Catalina Piña, and Shelly Swanson – are new to the Board, while the fourth, Dr. Armando Valerio, was provisionally appointed to the Board in May 2024. The three new trustees prevailed in the November election. Trustee Valerio ran unopposed for his seat. STOCKTON – In a decision that will benefit local students for generations to come, voters have approved a bond measure to upgrade Delta College classrooms and facilities. Dr. Armando Valerio appointed to Delta College Board of Trustees

STOCKTON - San Joaquin Delta College trustees have chosen Dr. Armando Valerio, a physical therapist who is active in many community organizations and causes, to serve on Delta’s governing board. Trustees by a 6-0 vote selected Trustee Valerio to fill a seat vacated by Kathy Garcia, who stepped down in March. The provisional appointment will last until the November 2024 election, when Garcia’s term was set to expire. Trustee Valerio will represent Area 5 (east San Joaquin County and portions of Calaveras County). A Stockton native, Trustee Valerio attended Delta College after high school and said the experience helped him find his way. STOCKTON – Three returning Delta College trustees were sworn in this week, officially launching their next term of service on the College’s governing body. Trustee Janet Rivera, the longest-tenured Board member, was sworn in for her eighth term after winning re-election in November. She was first elected in 1994 and represents Area 3 (north Stockton). Trustees Charles Jennings and Catherine Mathis, who were unopposed in the election, also took the oath.
