Installation of solar panels is underway in Delta College’s Locke 3 parking lot, offering the most visible sign yet of progress on the College’s first projects funded by the voter-approved Measure K bond.

When complete, solar arrays spanning three Delta College parking lots are expected to generate 3 megawatts of renewable energy and save the College $1 million or more each year in utility costs. Those savings can be reinvested in what matters most: educating and supporting students and their families.

Even as construction continues, the L3 lot partially reopened Friday, Aug. 14, in time for the start of Fall Semester. Portions of the lot may close periodically throughout the semester as electrical crews complete this phase of the project.

Work in the Budd 1 parking lot is expected to begin in October.

The solar arrays are part of Delta’s broader Energy Efficiency Project, which also includes repairing and repaving parking lots and upgrading heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems across the more than 50-year-old Stockton campus.

And this is just the beginning.

The $598 million Measure K bond, approved by voters in November 2024, will fund critical improvements across Delta College in the years ahead, modernizing aging infrastructure, improving spaces for teaching and learning, and helping ensure the College can continue serving students and the community for generations to come.
