The CalWORKs Work Study program is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience, while still participating in an educational training program.
Work Study benefits
Here's why Work Study is a great idea:
- You can work up to 20 hours a week when classes are in session;
- Work Study income is exempt from the calculation of your CalWORKs cash aid grant;
- Hours worked count toward the weekly CalWORKs participation requirement; and
- Employers receive a 75% reimbursement of students' wages. This "stretches" students' federal work study grants, and most times those grants will last throughout the fiscal year, July 1-June 30.
