Walk-ins are accepted! For the first two weeks of Spring Semester students will be seen by counselors on a walk-in basis daily, from Friday, Jan. 9 through Friday, Jan. 23 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Open until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays!

Working with a counselor is critical to making sure you're on the right track in reaching your goals. There are several ways to meet or interact with our counselors, online and in person!

Standard appointments

Meet with a counselor for up to one hour for in-depth discussions about career and transfer goals, developing your Comprehensive Education Plan, completing a Financial Aid appeal, and much more. TIP: Counseling appointments are scheduled two weeks early, so plan ahead!

The following topics require a scheduled appointment:

  • Financial Aid Appeals
  • International Student Services
  • Academic/Progress Probation
  • Transfer Agreements
  • Veteran Services

Students may make a counseling appointment in person at DeRicco 234, by phone at (209) 954-5151 ext. 6276, or by clicking on the chat box at this page.

Mountain House: Appointments for counseling services at our Mountain House campus can be made in person or by calling (209) 833-7900.

Same-Day Appointments

Did you know you can show up early in the morning and secure an appointment for later that day? Same-day appointments are available every day but Wednesdays are your best bet as more counselors are available.

  • TIP: You should show in person at the Counseling Office by 8 a.m. for the best chance of snagging an appointment for the same day!

Drop-In Visits

These shorter visits with a counselor are best if you need clarification on a specific issue, like whether to add or drop a specific course. For more comprehensive guidance, you might be better off making an appointment.

  • TIP: Walk-ins are available every day, with special extended hours every Wednesday until 7 p.m.!

Drop-in sessions are best for students who need clarification on a specific topic or need assistance that does not require an in-depth review of their academic history and education goals. Your counselor may inform you during a drop-in visit whether a full appointment is needed.

Send a Question

Got a burning question about an issue or problem? You can submit it anytime!

  • TIP: This works best for students inquiring about very specific things, like which course to take in a specific area. For bigger discussions, you'll want to visit with a counselor in person.

If You Make an Appointment

Things to know if you make a counseling appointment:

  • Counselors are not assigned to specific groups of students.
  • For in-person appointments, please check in 15 minutes prior to your appointment.
  • For Zoom appointments, please plan to log in to your appointment 15 minutes prior to the time scheduled. This will give you time to make sure your technology is working properly and that you are in the waiting room when the counselor is ready to invite you into their Zoom room. It is important that you are on time.
  • If you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment, please call (209) 954-5151 ext. 6276 or use chat as soon as possible.
  • If you are a student in the EOPS/CARE or DSPS programs, you will need to contact their offices directly to schedule an appointment with your counselor.

Note: By scheduling a counseling appointment, you acknowledge that all counselors are Mandated Reporters who are bound by law to report "harm to self or others" and/or "child or elder abuse".
