Steps to Enroll in the POST Academy

Step 1: Pass The PELLETb Test

You'll need to take the Post Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery Examination (PELLETb) at Delta College or at any facility that is offering the examination. You can practice for the PELLETb exam by reviewing this study guide.

The PELLETb test is offered several times a year through Delta College's POST Academy. You must pre-register online. Registration is open generally 3 weeks prior to the test date.

Take the Test At An Off-Campus Facility

You can also take the PELLETb exam at any facility that offers the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery Examination. Please refer to the Post Website for a listing of departments/agencies. The most common place students go to take this test is the South South Bay Regional Public Safety-San Jose. Please do not call our office asking where to take the test. You must contact the facilities directly to obtain their testing times and dates.

Once you have a passing total T-score letter of 40.0 or higher, email a copy of your T-Score notification to post@deltacollege.edu. If you submitted a qualifying T-score, you should receive an email notice with registration information for the next AJ 094 orientation class. Include your name and Delta student ID number in your email.

 

Step 2: Apply as a Delta College Student

Independent applicants who pass the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery with a total T-Score of 40.0 or better, as well as sponsored cadets must apply to Delta College as a student by completing the online application for admission to the College, or be a current student in good standing with the college.

Step 3: Register for the course AJ 094

All applicants must register in the prerequisite course, AJ 094 Peace Officer Academy Orientation, and successfully pass AJ 094 before being accepted to attend the Basic Peace Officer Academy. Information for registering into AJ 094 is provided by email to the applicants that have successfully passed the PELLETb exam with a score of 40.0 or higher, provided the Academy office a copy of your test results and provided your Delta student ID number.

 

Step 4: Prepare for the AJ94 Academy Orientation Class 

All independent applicants must have the following prior to the beginning of AJ 094 Academy Orientation:

  • Physician Medical Clearance
  • DOJ clearance via Live Scan (LiveScan Locations)
  • 4 passport photos purchased from Walgreens, Costco, Post Office etc. (no personally made photos)
  • Driver’s License
  • Driver’s License DMV Printout (Driver Record Request)
  • Uniforms, duty gear as specified

Cost of the POST Academy

The cost of an independent cadet attending the POST Academy is approximately $5,500. This includes all materials and fees that are distributed throughout the program. POST Academy Expense List

WorkNet

Should you wish to contact WorkNet for information regarding possible support services for the academy, visit their webpage or call (209) 954-5728. Stop by their office in the DeRicco Building Room 208. 

Agency Sponsored

Law enforcement agencies wishing to sponsor employees into the program should contact the Academy to reserve seats in the next available course. Call (209) 954-5258 or email post@deltacollege.edu. Agencies will be notified of registration requirements when they reserve seats. Agencies that provide duty gear, ballistic vests, and ammunition can expect to pay approximately $3,500 per cadet to cover all three modules of the program.
