About POST Academy

Serve with integrity. Lead with purpose. If you're ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role in law enforcement, Delta College's POST Academy offers the training you need to get started.

Through intensive coursework, physical training, and real-world scenarios, this program prepares you to meet California's high standards for peace officers, including police, sheriff's officials, corrections and more. You'll develop the knowledge, discipline, and communication skills needed to serve your community with professionalism and confidence.

Graduates leave the academy ready to enter local or state law enforcement, with a strong foundation in criminal law, community policing, de-escalation, and ethical decision-making.

Certificate, Degree and Other Learning Options

Basic Peace Officer Academy Certificate of Achievement

Upon successful completion of the Basic Peace Officer Academy Modular Format, the students will receive a certificate of completion that qualifies them for employment as a California Peace Officer, Deputy Sheriff, Level I Reserve Officer. The student will have successfully demonstrated his or her ability to demonstrate ethical conduct; make judgments concerning the enforcement of the law without prejudice; apply the level of force that can lawfully be used by a peace officer; recognize the importance of initial and ongoing training in coping with dangerous situations; analyze and solve problems; write reports that conform to accepted professional standards of quality; and recognize and understand the concepts and terminology that is needed to understand the California criminal justice system. The California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training accredits this program.
