The English 78 and 87 series enables basic skills learners to acquire language proficiency guaranteeing their participation in the economic and civic life of our valley. The English 79 and English C1000 series trains certificate and Associate Degree candidates in the literacy skills demanded by the professions they are entering. The department's English C1000, 1B, and C1001 courses along with literature courses will prepare you for successful transfer to a four-year institution.

English C1000 (formerly English 1A) is a transfer-level composition class comparable to freshman English courses in colleges and universities across the United States. This course emphasizes college-level reading and writing skills, including the skills needed to write a documented research essay. Taking English C1000 during your first semester in college or in high school is highly recommended.
