With more than 34 years of experience in the criminal justice profession, Professor Main brings extensive leadership, instructional, and field expertise to San Joaquin Delta College.

Born and raised in San Francisco, he later moved to Truckee California where he began his public safety career as a Cadet at age 14 with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, and developed a lifelong commitment to law enforcement and community service. From his very first ride along, Professor Main discovered his passion and future.

Professor Main currently serves as a full-time faculty member at San Joaquin Delta College, following four and a half years as the College’s Police Chief and Police Academy Director. He previously served as Adjunct Faculty and taught for several years in Delta's POST-certified police academy, teaching Criminal Law, Traffic Enforcement, DUI Investigations, Community-Oriented Policing, and Search and Seizure.

His instructional approach emphasizes student mentoring, ethical decision-making, and workforce preparation for careers in law enforcement and public service.

Prior to Delta College, Professor Main served 29 years with the Lodi Police Department, including two and a half years as Chief of Police. His assignments included Patrol, School Resource Officer, Investigations, Field Training Officer, Traffic, Media Relations, Hostage Negotiations, Internal Affairs, Training, District Commander, Watch Commander, and SWAT Commander.

He advanced through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Chief of Police.Professor Main holds an Associate of Arts degree from San Joaquin Delta College, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s College of California, and a Master of Arts degree from Chapman University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the LAPD West Point Leadership Development Program.

Professor Main is married with three children. Away from work Professor Main loves to golf, enjoys the mountains and is an avid San Francisco Giants and Sacramento Kings fan.
