About the Writing Success Center

The Writing Success Center (WSC) provides writing tutoring for any Delta College course assignment through two different modalities:

• In-person tutoring with a peer tutor both by appointment and first-come-first-served drop-in options
• Or by providing feedback via email

How Tutoring works

Tutors can help students in person or by email submission with writing assignments for any class.  Tutors can help with brainstorming, crafting a thesis, reviewing sentence structure and grammar issues, and inserting citations and works cited pages.  Tutors cannot correct or edit student papers, but they will help the student understand how to go about revising their areas of concern.

Drop-in and Appointment Policies

Students can work with a writing tutor up to one hour per day. If a student needs to cancel or reschedule an appointment, they should call the WSC at least 30 minutes prior to their appointment start time. If a student has not arrived after 15 minutes into their scheduled appointment, they will be considered a no-show and their appointment slot can be given to drop-in students.

If a student makes appointments and no-shows more than twice, their ability to make appointments may be rescinded for the remainder of the semester, but they can still drop-in.  

Submitting a Paper for Feedback Through Email

The WSC also allows students to submit papers via email for general feedback. Please note that this is not equivalent to a full session with a tutor, as you will not be able to ask real-time questions. To submit a paper via email, please follow the instructions below.

To submit a paper for feedback via email, students MUST include all of the following:

• Student Information including Name (First and Last) and ID number
• Course name and instructor
• Copy of the writing prompt/topic for the assignment
• What the student would like the tutor to focus on (thesis, structure, paragraph construction, etc).
• A Word document that contains the paper (no PDFs or other file types will be accepted)
• Submit the essay and all the other information outlined above to: wsc@deltacollege.edu

PLEASE NOTE: Submissions to the Writing Success Center email will receive a response in 1-3 business days. The WSC conforms to the campus calendar, which means we are closed on weekends and district holidays.

Please know that Delta College tutors spend 30 minutes on essays submitted via email in an effort to help as many students as possible. Should additional tutoring be necessary, students will need to attend live tutoring.
