Biography
I am a native California artist. I grew up in Dixon, California. My parents came from Mexico. I usually paint in large scale canvases to capture both a sense and scene of the Mexican muralist. I have been working as a painter for over twenty years. I studied at California State University of Sacramento and graduated with a Masters degree in studio Art. I have been an art educator for over 11 years. I am currently teaching art at Los Rios Community College, Sierra College and now at Delta College.
My studies coupled with my commitment to work has resulted in a body of work consisting of evolving imagery that maintains a stylistic consistency while exploring fresh territory. “It is always my intention to utilize any means to bring a painting or drawing forth.” This premise is evident when considering my present mature scope of work.
My present style illustrates hallmark characteristics of an atmosphere on a vast visual plane for the indigenous figures that enhance the sense of action in the paintings. It also provides an opportunity to visually read a piece observing bold areas of color intermingled with sweeping strokes that build the visual imagery. My paintings are individual statements about contemporary issues, such as global warming, which have emerged over the past decade, while also admiring the rich tradition of Indigenous art and the Mexican muralist. I seek to combine intuitive impulses and social commentary with figurative and abstract imagery from past and present.
It is imperative that I use my artistic sensibilities and technical skills to create a feeling in the visual imagery. In the solitude of my studio, I address both contemporary issues with the painting infrastructure and color interplay in combination with descriptive imagery which eventually finds Its meaning and place in the finished work
