Artist Statement
Although I ultimately chose a career in medicine, I have always been drawn to art and design. Long before becoming an anesthesiologist, I designed and built modern furniture, painted in oils, and created wall sconces from onyx and stained glass. In 2001, I exhibited my lighting sculptures at Belcher Studios Gallery in San Francisco.
After that show, I devoted myself to my career and to building a wonderful family. Looking back, my greatest creations were never the objects I made, but my two children.
It wasn’t until my retirement that I rediscovered my passion for creating with my hands. Joining the Walnut Creek Ceramic Studio opened the door to a new artistic journey. Beyond learning new techniques, I found something even more meaningful: a community of generous artists, many with decades of experience, who freely shared their knowledge and encouragement. The pottery studio has become much more than a place to make art. It has become a place of belonging, inspiration, and gratitude.
I am honored to have my work included in this exhibition and grateful to continue learning through this timeless art.
