Biography

After a successful career as a film and video maker, I directed my creative energies into sculpture. Both my abstract and figurative works have been described as elegant, yet earthy and powerful. In creating these pieces, I engage in a spontaneous dialogue with the material guided by my subconscious and interest in the worlds of the numinous and the archetypal. Since beginning this journey, my work has appeared in over 60 national and international juried shows, been featured in four books, several articles, and recognized by curators from notable institutions such as NY MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Guggenheim Museum.

Artist Statement

With his heavily furrowed brow, downturned mouth, and tense expression, “Pondering Man” isn’t just casually thinking. He represents the isolating burden of self-awareness.   A detached hand cradles his face, philosophically introducing the concept of mind-body dualism—a state of self-observation in which one aspect of “Pondering Man” is experiencing the emotion while another, the hand, is holding him up through the experience. The man ignores the two weathered spheres sitting before him, suggesting an inward retreat. The world is at his feet, but his attention is locked in internal gravitas.  This juxtaposition highlights the fleeting, fragile nature of human emotion against the cold permanence of the external world.
