APIASA Mission Statement
The mission of APIASA is to promote the betterment of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans involved in the educational process at Delta College and in the local community.
We are dedicated to the following objectives:
- To advance the professional, educational, civic, and social interests of our members;
- To stimulate community interest in all phases of education and to encourage constructive action to help meet the educational and cultural needs of the community;
- To provide Asian and Pacific Islander American students access to higher education by granting monetary scholarships; and
- To promote a better understanding and cultural exchange amongst Asian and Pacific Islander Americans and provide a support system to our members which includes mentorship and honoring our retirees.
History and Membership
Founded in 1988 by EOPS Counselor/Professor Clarence Louie, APIASA has been fortunate to have had many wonderful people step up and volunteer over the years.
Operating with an Executive Board made up of current and past presidents, a treasurer, and a Scholarship Committee, these individuals give meaning and purpose to our organization through their selfless efforts to be involved and engaged.
Under the leadership of our new President, Professor Cirian Villavicencio, APIASA is at critical mass, due to recent retirements, and thus welcomes new folks that can continue our great legacy of service, commitment, and mentoring AAPI staff, faculty, managers, students, and community.
APIASA Scholarship Donations
Central to APIASA’s purpose is to support student success by awarding monetary scholarships that can help with college expenses.
APIASA has awarded nearly $50,000 since 1993. Our goal is to increase the numbers of these scholarships.
One way to achieve this is through Payroll Deduction. If Delta AAPI employees, allies, friends, & family gave a little each month or once a year, then our annual awarding of scholarships could be sustained.
Note that every dollar donated goes directly to the students and is tax deductible (consult a tax professional).
