Graphic Arts

Upon successful completion of the noncredit Digital Imaging Certificate of Completion, the student will demonstrate skills, knowledge, and training for entry-level employment or career advancement in fields where image creation, editing, and retouching are standard practice. Students will work to understand media management, while also learning basic techniques in digital imaging, including blending, masking, working with layers, and using filters. Emphasis will be on creation and curation of portfolio-ready pieces for employment.

Upon successful completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Graphic Arts, the student will demonstrate skills, knowledge, and training for entry-level employment in the field of graphic design and layout. Specific job titles include but are not limited to the following: Computer Typesetter, Paste-Up Artist, Cartoonist, Graphic Layout and Design, Ad Artist, Computer Artist, Photo Restoration, Photo Manipulation, and Scanner Operator. The student will demonstrate ability to create graphic designs and documents using electronic desktop publishing software, create artwork using digital design software, design World Wide Web pages, and design pre-press publications.

The Associate in Arts degree in Graphic Arts prepares students for transfer or further study in the field of graphic design. Students receive hands-on instruction and training necessary for entry-level employment while completing a general education path of study. Coursework involves work that will allow for employment in the field of graphic design and layout. Specific job titles include but are not limited to the following: Computer Typesetter, Paste-Up Artist, Cartoonist, Graphic Layout and Design, Ad Artist, Computer Artist, Photo Restoration, Photo Manipulation, and Scanner Operator. Students will work in a manner that involves industry standards, leaving the program with a portfolio allowing them to pursue jobs immediately upon completion or continue their education.

The Graphic Arts with an Emphasis in Print Production certificate will provide students with knowledge of visual communication and graphic design principles and theory. Students will be introduced to computer graphics using various software applications and tools needed for college transfer or entry-level jobs in the graphic design industry. Coursework includes practical, hands-on training, and critical thinking. Students earning a certificate in Graphic Arts with an Emphasis in Print Production will explore topics such as original image creation, photographic editing, scanning, printing, layout, web design and typography. Career opportunities include, but are not limited to: Computer Typesetter, Paste-Up Artist, Cartoonist, Graphic Layout and Design, Ad Artist, Computer Artist, Photo Restoration, Photo Manipulation, Desktop Publishers and Scanner Operator.
