The Psychiatric Technician (PT) program prepares students with entry-level skills and knowledge to practice in the role of a licensed psychiatric technician in a variety of health care settings. Graduates receive a certificate of completion and are prepared to successfully complete the state licensing examination to obtain licensure as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician in the state of California. The program consists of one calendar year of nursing course work after completion of program prerequisite courses and selection into the program.
Employment opportunities are good locally for licensed psychiatric technician and excellent statewide. The Department of Corrections and state developmental centers actively recruit psychiatric technicians. Graduates are actively recruited and employed by local health care facilities with starting salaries of $14-17 per hour.
All prerequisite courses and program requirements must be completed in order to be eligible to apply to the Psychiatric Technician program. Applicants MUST be enrolled as a current Delta College Student and know their Delta College ID Number and email address. To be current as a Delta College student, an "active application" must be on file with Delta College Admissions and Records. If a student has not attended Delta College for two or more semesters, then they do not have an "active application" and must reapply to Delta College. Any student who does not have an "active application" on file prior to the Psychiatric Technician Online application opening date will be unable to submit an application to the program.
***The Psychiatric Technician Program Fall Online Application Period will open the 4th week in August each year (subject to change).
