The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program prepares students with entry-level skills and knowledge to practice in the role of a Registered Nurse in a variety of health care settings. Graduates receive the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing and are prepared to successfully complete the NCLEX-RN (state licensing examination) to obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. The program consists of four semesters (two academic years) of nursing course work after completion of program prerequisite courses and selection into the program.

This program, leading to an Associate in Science Degree in Nursing, is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. (3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326, phone: 404/975-5000, fax: 404/975-5020, e-mail: nlnac@nlnac.org, web: http://www.nlnac.org)

DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

All students who plan on applying to the ADN program MUST be enrolled as a current San Joaquin Delta College student at the time applications to the ADN program are being accepted.

To be current as a Delta College student, an "active application" must be on file with Delta College Admissions and Records. If a student has not attended Delta College for two or more semesters, then they do not have an "active application" and must reapply to Delta College. Any student who does not have an "active application" on file prior to the ADN online application opening date will be unable to submit an application to the ADN program. Only Version V of the TEAS test will be accepted for admission to the Fall 2013 class.

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO BE A REGISTERED NURSE?

StethoscopeA career as a Registered Nurse can be rewarding, flexible, and challenging.  The majority of RNs work in acute care, providing direct care to patients with a variety of medical conditions.  You should have a fairly good aptitude for math and science, good communication skills, and be comfortable working closely with people.  Registered Nurses find work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, insurance companies, and other healthcare environments.  Some of these settings may require an advanced degree - if you are interested in a specific nursing career, find out what type of education and experience you'll need by doing some research and talking with a career counselor.
