Basic Peace Officer Academy, Certificate of Achievement

Upon successful completion of the Basic Peace Officer Academy, the student will receive a certificate of completion that qualifies them for employment as a California Peace Officer, Deputy Sheriff, adult/juvenile probation or Parole Officer, Reserve Officer, or Corrections. The student will have successfully demonstrated his or her ability to demonstrate ethical conduct; make judgments concerning the enforcement of the law without prejudice; apply the level of force that can lawfully be used by a peace officer; recognize the importance of initial and ongoing training in coping with dangerous situations; analyze and solve problems; write reports that conform to accepted professional standards of quality; recognize and understand the concepts and terminology that is needed to understand the California criminal justice system. The California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training accredits this program.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Upon successful completion of the POST Academy, the student will receive a certification of completion that qualifies them for employment as a California Peace Officer. The student will have successfully demonstrated the ability to conduct themselves in an ethical manner. The student will identify and apply force that can be lawfully used by a Peace Officer. The student will be able to analyze situations and solve problems and document their actions in a professional report.

The student will have demonstrated the ability to apply the level of force that can lawfully be used by a peace officer; recognize the importance of initial and ongoing training in coping with dangerous situations; analyze and solve problems; write reports that conform to accepted professional standards of quality; recognize and understand the concepts and terminology that is needed to understand the California criminal justice system. The California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training accredits this program.
  3. Upon successful completion of the Basic Peace Officer Academy, the student will receive a certificate of completion that qualifies them for employment as a California Peace Officer. The student will have successfully demonstrated his or her ability to demonstrate ethical conduct; make judgments concerning the enforcement of the law without prejudice. The California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training accredits this program. Assessment: The California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) accredits the program. POST requires the student to pass predetermined assessments that include 27 written exams, 15 performance based scenarios, and 26 shills tests.
