In celebration of Black History Month, the Health and Fitness TrAC is excited to celebrate the diversity of nursing students! We will be hosting our third annual Black Nursing Information Session! If you're passionate about becoming a nurse, this is the event for you.

We’ll be walking you through everything you need to know about joining our Registered Nursing program at SJDC. From pre-requisite requirements to understanding the costs involved, we’ve got you covered. If you’re worried about your high school GPA, don't stress — we’ll explain the steps you can take to still pursue your dream of becoming a nurse. We’ll also dive into dual enrollment options for high school students interested in jumping into the program early.

Curious about the TEAS test? We’ll break it down and share tips on how to succeed. Plus, this session will highlight the unique challenges students may face when pursuing nursing, and we’ll offer support and solutions. You’ll also have the opportunity to hear directly from our incredible Black faculty, including Co-Assistant Director of the ADN program, Nicole S. Porter III and Counselor Raichelle Strickland. Additionally, nursing alumna Chon Thomson will share her personal journey and valuable insights. Anitra Williams, Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive, as well as Co-Creator of the HOPE Program, will also provide valuable perspectives.

This session is designed as a safe, welcoming space for African American students and their families to feel empowered and inspired to enter the nursing profession. You and your parents or support system are encouraged to attend, and we recommend bringing a pen and paper to take notes and jot down any questions you may have. Light refreshments will be provided, along with exciting raffle prizes!
