Mental Health Referral and Support

We're here to help!  The Counseling Office and many other Student Services offices are here to help the students and staff at Delta College.  Our mental health services include help with:

  • Psychiatric Events
  • Campus Events
  • Life Issues/Events
  • Referrals to Community Resources

  AFFIRM Learning Community

AFFIRM is a program designed to increase the retention, matriculation and, transfer rate of African American students to four-year colleges and universities. Emphasis is placed on the successful completion of the necessary English courses needed for transfer. An essential component to the success of the AFFIRM program is the collaboration between students, parents, community members, as well as faculty and staff at Delta College.

Randy Gaines
Randy Gaines, a General Counselor on the San Joaquin Delta College staff, is resonsible for assisting our student athletes with admissions, student education plans, transfer, and placement into the necessary support services on the Delta campus. He is also available for NCAA and NAIA eligibility situations.

Lydia Macy

International Students
Diane Feneck and Lydia Macy are presently serving as Counselors for International students. They are available to provide assistance for International Students who have questions regarding academic, career and personal issues.

The mission of the Puente Project is to increase the number of educationally underserved students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn degrees, and return to the community as leaders and mentors to future generations.

To ensure transfer success, students must commit to all three phases of the program:

1.) Enroll in an English class with a curricular focus on Latino literature and experience.
2.) Enroll in a Guidance course and meet regularly the Puente counselor.
3.) Meet with a professionally and/or academically successful Mentor from the community for the academic year.

Dr. Xiong

Dr. Cheuyengther Xiong is presently serving as the lead counselor for Veterans (All general counselors, however, are available to assist veterans). Benefits are paid to eligible veterans, dependents, reservists, and service members while they are in an approved training program.

Before setting up an appointment to speak with Cheuyengther or any of the other counselors in Guidance and Counseling, please contact Lakhana Saini, Financial Aid Specialist by calling (209) 954-5151 ext. 6171 or stop by the Financial Aid Office on the 1st floor of the DeRicco Student Services Building.

One hour counseling appointments for veterans can be made by calling (209) 954-5151 ext 6276.
