Lilia Becerra-Quintor has a Master's Degree in English with an emphasis in writing, reading, and linguistics and a Bachelor's Degree in English as a Second Language (ESL) with a minor in Latin American Studies both from the University of the Pacific. She has been teaching ESL and composition for over ten years and taught reading for a number of years. During the 1988/1989 school year, she was the coordinator of the ESL program while the coordinator was on sabbatical. In the ESL program, she has taught English 180, 80, 81,70B, and 84. In the English program, she has taught English 70a-c, English 87, 79, 71, and 1A. Also, during the 1996-1997 school year, she was the Acting Director/Coordinator of the Tutor Center. That year she also taught English 32A-Tutor Training. Lilia worked with the EOPS counselors in the Success Within Reach Program for a number of years.

Farida Smyth grew up on the island of Java, Indonesia. She attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, where she received her B.A. and M.A. in Inter-American Studies with a major in English as a Second Language. Farida is fascinated with languages and has taken Spanish, French, Japanese, Chinese, Dutch, German and American Sign language classes. Farida has taught at Delta College since 1981. She served as Writing and ESL Coordinator for a few years and has been in charge of the ESL Placement Testing for more than 10 years. Farida loves music and has incorporated many of her favorite songs into oral laboratory lessons.

Kelly Kadi loves multicultural literature, thought-provoking discourse, and helping students improve their writing and reach their academic goals. She received degrees in English and Spanish, and a minor in education, from UC Davis. She attended the Multicultural-Multilingual Education Program at CSU, Sacramento where she earned a bilingual teaching credential in English, Spanish, and ESL. She studied language and teaching in Spain and Puerto Rico, where she earned an M.A. in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages from Universidad Interamericano, PR. She has taught high-school and community-college levels of English and ESL in Woodland, CA for eight years and brings experience in curriculum design and student-centered instruction to Delta College. She is currently teaching English and ESL and coordinating Delta’s Puente Program.

Amber Wolak developed a love of teaching English while serving in the Peace Corps in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, West Africa. In those early days of teaching, where she worked to inspire classrooms of 80+ students, she realized that teaching was a calling she simply had to pursue. She taught at a middle school in Mauritania for two years, before spending a year teaching English at a university in the Sichuan Province of China. Upon returning to the United States, Amber worked for three years as the Program Services Coordinator for the English Language Institute and SparkPoint Center of Skyline College in San Bruno. She was an adjunct professor for the English and ESL departments at Contra Costa College, and has been teaching English at the Mountain House campus of San Joaquin Delta College since 2013. Amber completed her general education classes at San Joaquin Delta College before transferring to complete her B.A. at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA). Amber’s M.A. is in English, with a concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), from San Francisco State; she also has a certificate in Teaching Post-Secondary Reading.
