Student Leadership Development Series

The Office of Student Activities is coordinating a series of workshops exploring various aspects of leadership. The workshops are presented by prominent leaders from San Joaquin Delta College which will provide students the opportunity to develop their interpersonal skills and gain knowledge to assist with their personal and professional goals.

Students who attend all workshops will be awarded a Leadership Certificate which can help them stand out on their college and employment applications!

MARCH 01, 2023 - Melissa Muganzo Murphy - Social Justice and Advocacy

Melissa Muganzo is an activist, entertainer, and humanitarian. She is passionate about leadership and influence and how and when to use her leadership toolkit to curate space for others. Muganzo's presentation will center the ways in which leadership can be used to enhance or reduce progress and provide tips and strategies on how to identify your leadership skills and tap in them to create positive change.

OCTOBER 18, 2022 - The History of Hate

Have you ever wondered why and how our world is filled with so much discrimination, injustice, and inequity? The “History of Hate” explores the origins of racism, colonialism, and genocide that emerged in the 15th century and continues to this day. Participants will engage in an interactive, critical workshop that investigates the specific processes and factors that impact our society, country, and world today, and will have the opportunity to dialogue about their own personal experiences and reactions.

OCTOBER 25, 2022 - Fight the Power!: Countering the Conspiracy to Derail Social Justice Activism and Societal Change

This workshop illuminates the critical need for student-led activism and leadership in the current historic moment to transform learning and social change. This workshop will center both contemporary and historic issues to demonstrate examples of activist efforts in the United States and how these issues serve as important touchstones for developing critical consciousness. This presentation will culminate with suggestions for coalition building for transformative social change.
