Notes

South Forum. Sept 29, 2005 1:05pm - 2:05pm
  • These items were discussed:
    1. Request to Bargain meeting
      • The District has made a request to bargain with SJDCTA regarding health care.
      • There was discussion on this issue amongst our members. Strategy was discussed. Joe and Jeff will meet this afternoon with the District.
      • An SJDCTA meeting will be held on Monday Oct 2, 2006 to discuss the outcome of today's bargaining meeting.

    2. Cost of health benefits historical overview, by Claudia Quinn

      Claudia presented an historic overview.

        Main points:
      • Health care costs ARE NOT BEING PAID IN ARREARS!
      • We have always paid "this year's premiums", and the campus budget for "this year's health care" has been formulated with the actual cost of last year's premiums.
      • Faculty have traded away some salary increases in the past for increased health care coverage.
      • About 15 years ago, 7% of parts of the campus budget were used for health care costs. This rate was increased to 10% about 10 years ago. SJDCTA and the District have had initial conversations about the need to make changes to our health care package, including the concept of increasing the percentage.
      • MORE INFORMATION about this topic in the next newsletter.

    3. Board of Trustees Candidates endorsement.
      • Discussion with the membership, reviewing a recent candidate question/answer forum.
      • The SJDCTA Exec Board voted unanimously to endorse Maria Elena Serna, Ted Simas, and Janet Rivera in the upcoming election.
      • Ms. Serna and Mr. Simas are running in competitive seats, while Ms. Rivera is running unopposed. Based on this fact, the Exec Board also voted to donate at least $2500 (and no more than $5000) each to Ms. Serna and Mr. Simas (the additional $2500 each may be supplied by the State CTA. This is pending.)

    4. Laptop PC for SJDCTA use in negotiations, not to exceed $2500 total, was unanimously approved by the Exec Board.
