President:
Elizabeth Maloney: Energy with Results! Current union commitment and responsibilities include SJDCTA Second Vice-President in charge of grievances (2 years), Higher Education Representative to State CTA (4 years) and District C Director for the Community College Association - CCA (2 years). Integral member of contract negotiations. Proven leadership coupled with experience and knowledge regarding policies, procedures, mediation and union advocacy. I pledge to work hard to protect your rights and our contract. I have the time, the knowledge and the dedication necessary for this important role.
Jeff Hislop: I have been an active CTA member for 12 years. I have been a division rep for 3 years and represented the Applied Science Division. I was then elected Secretary and served for 3 years. I was then appointed Chief negotiator for 4 years while also serving as second VP. I have been the President of SJDCTA for 2 years. I respectfully request your vote and support for President.
1st Vice President (Policy and Procedures):
Harry Mersmann: I have served for six years in the past as the Social Science Rep and I worked on two committees (as Chair in 2009) to rewrite our by-laws. I recently applied for and was accepted into the statewide CCA Building Strong Locals Academy in order to receive the requisite training to ensure that our actions and decisions were both legal and effective and to step into the presidency if necessary. I will be a clear, cogent, and assertive voice on issues of policy and procedure and look forward to working with a slate of candidates committed to a strong union.
2nd Vice President (Grievances):
Bill Ferraiolo: I am running for SJDCTA Second Vice President (Grievance Coordinator) because the administration exhibits a pattern of: ignoring "inconvenient" policy, "misinterpreting" procedural rules, and generally treating faculty rights as if they are insignificant irritants to be swept aside at managerial whim. Ask yourselves if any administrator is looking forward to having to debate me on questions of policy, procedure, or contractual obligation. That, my fellow faculty, will keep "them" up at night -- and petrified during the day. So, do you want me defending your rights? If so, I'm asking for your vote. I am William Ferraiolo and I approve this message!
3rd Vice President:
Josie Malik: Currently 3rd Vice President in charge of Adjunct Associate Professors , appointed by CCA President, Ron Norton Reel to serve on the following Community College Association state level committees: Part Time Faculty Issues Committee and Human Rights Committee. CTA State Council Representative for Higher Education (have served 8 years on State Council). Strong and proven leadership skills. I am committed to advocate on behalf of all our members. Instrumental in advocating and seeing the fruition of our Adjunct sick bank. Eager to continue on as your voice.
Secretary:
Shelba Durston: I am asking for your vote to serve as Secretary of our local chapter of the California Teacher's Association. As the current representative for the Health Science Division, I have been a regular attendee of CTA biweekly meetings on campus. I will keep you informed of issues discussed and the agenda of each meeting via email, and be available to serve you, as needed, in the upcoming academic year.
Steve Schermerhorn: I have been active in our Association since 1998. I have served as 1st VP/Policy & Procedures for 4 years. I have been instrumental in implementing all our electronic communications tools (e.g. web site, e-balloting, e-mail groups, blogs, etc). I have served on the Negotiations Team. As Secretary, I will continue my commitment to communication and strengthening our Association. Thank you for your support.
Treasurer:
Clarence Louie: I'm currently SJDCCTA Treasurer. I would like to serve another term. As your Treasurer, the fiduciary responsibilities includes, but not limited to developing an annual budget, provide expenditure reports, file State and Federal Exemptions from income tax, and prepare for the annual Independent Audit Report. If elected, I will continue to maintain the highest integrity that this position requires.
Division Representatives:

Applied Science, Business & Technology
Arts & Communication
Athletics/Physical Education, Recreation & Athletics (PERA)
Health Sciences
Humanities, Social Science & Education:
- Wes Swanson: I have served as the HSSE union representative for the last two years and during this time I have served on several committees and have been an active member of the union political action committee. I have chaired the candidate interview committee to assist in determining which board candidates the union should support and have worked in the subsequent union election efforts. Recently I have worked on revising the bylaws. I regularly attend our union meetings and work at being well informed on union issues by participation in all of the CCA conferences. Thanks.
- Rachel Standish

- Marcos Contreras
- Steve Schermerhorn
Student Services, Counseling: Stella Alonzo: I would like to be considered for the position of Counseling and Special Services Representative. In October of 2007, I was appointed to be Interm-Director of EOPS until July of 2008. Your consideration to my request will be greatly appreciated.
