With the dawn of a new era in policing, the officers no longer felt that the local chapter of the California School Employees Association (CSEA) could effectively provide negotiations, or legal assistance for the new police officers. On March 22, 1983, the original members of the police department broke ranks from the CSEA and formed The San Joaquin Delta College Peace Officers Association. With the officers breaking ranks from the CSEA, the San Joaquin Delta College POA needed to find a statewide association to provide legal defense and assistance. As such, the San Joaquin Delta College POA joined the Peace Officers Research Association of California (P.O.R.A.C.).
Since its inception the SJDC POA has taken great pride in assisting in the maintenance of a positive and collaborative work environment, through effective communication with the District and all who are employed here.
The San Joaquin Delta College POA is a proud member of PORAC and actively participates within the Valley Chapter of PORAC, as well as the Specialized Police Associations Coalition (S.P.A.C.), a committee formed within PORAC to discuss and handle issues directly associated with specialized law enforcement agencies and associations.
