To The
FLEX PROGRAM
General
- A program for full-time faculty professional development related to staff, student, or instructional improvement.
- Full-time faculty obligated to complete 20 hours of professional development activities in lieu of 5 instructional days (4 days x 5 hrs/day = 20 hrs) each year. (Flex year runs from first Mandatory Flex Day at the start of Fall semester to day prior to same of following Fall semester.)
- 20 hour obligation to be completed as follows: minimum of 5 hrs during in-service day, 15 additional hours after your duty hours or on non-duty days. (Up to 8 additional hrs. can be banked for the following year.)
- Program administered by a Flex Program Coordinator through the Faculty Professional Growth (FPG) Committee.
Process
- Each faculty member fills out the Flex Contract form with hours of proposed activities and submits it electronically to the Faculty Professional Growth Committee by October 1 for FPG approval. Faculty members are contacted by email regarding approved proposed contracts.
- Upon completion of the activities the faculty member prints and signs the Flex Contract certifying fulfillment of the obligation and submits the form to the Academic Senate Office, Locke 119, for final approval by the FPG Committee by September 10 of the following year.
Activities
A variety of activities are eligible for flex credit. Examples include:
- On-campus workshops
- Department activities such as program reviews
- Individual projects such as new course/module development
- Professional association conferences
- Course work not for salary advancement
