An understanding of ecosystem structure and function is fundamental to an appreciation of how all organisms on earth work in concert to create that consumate symphony we call nature.

Reading Assignment:

Read Chapter 36 in the textbook: Biology:Concepts & Connections.

Refer to page 76 - Chapter Summary in Survey of Biology Lecture Notes - for the terms and key points you need to know. The Key Points are your guide to success in the course because they focus your attention on those topics upon which you need to concentrate your study to be optimally prepared for the upcoming examination.

Also study the references to the textbook which are indicated in the Survey of Biology Lecture Notes.

Lab Manual Assignment in Exploring the Natural World:

Complete the crossword and questions for chapter 4. Have the crossword ready to hand in at the start of class.

Study Group Activities:

Quiz everyone in the group on the flashcards labeled "Ecosystems." Try to complete this before the
lecture called "Introduction to Ecosystems." Quiz each other on the terms listed on page 76 in the lecture notes. Review the key points. It is a good idea to assign some of the key points to each member to review with the group.
