This page was produced by Dr. Jennifer Barrows. Much of the information presented on Artistic Dress was presented in her dissertation, The sources, rhetoric and gender of Artistic Dress, 1893 to 1911, which was overseen by Dr. Marcel Franciscono, professor emeritus at University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. The webpage seeks to draw more attention to this relatively forgotten chapter of art history.

Dr. Barrows is professor at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California, where she teaches survey classes in art history. The writing primer included in this page is an attempt to clarify what art historians do and provide some basic writing tips for her students.
