Course Outline
A.
Lectures describing literary terms, forms, and theory.
B. Lectures about methods of composition.
C. Class discussion of literature.
D. Out-of-class essays.
E. Final examination.
Class
Objective
- Students will learn about
the major forms of fiction and drama and the methods of writing analytically
and interpretively.
- Students will progress
from identification of plot outline and characterization to analysis
of thematic development, symbolism, and inference.
- Further, students will
develop the ability to recognize and generate ideas for elaboration
in essays through in-class discussion with the aim of deeper understanding.

Assignment
Form
- Type (double-space) all
papers except the in-class final. Blue books will be used for the final
exam.

Grading
Policy
- A three to five (3-5) page,
typed paper comparing and contrasting the themes of Amleth and Hamlet.
- A three to five (3-5) page,
typed paper analyzing symbols and/or thematic development in the novel.
- A mid-term exam consisting
of short answer essays responding to Faust.
- A final examination-short
answer essay-tracing a common theme through all works studied in class.
- The papers will be worth
100 pts each, and the final exam will be worth 300 points
- Final Grade Percentage:
90-100%=A ; 80-89%=B ; 70-79%=C; 60-69%=D ; 59%& lower=F
Students are expected
to keep up with the reading assignments, class participation, and
evaluative works. Late papers will be accepted after conferencing
with the instructor and will be docked one letter grade

Responsibility
It is the student's responsibility
to complete the necessary paperwork should he/she decide to drop the
class; Delta's existing policy allows three missed class periods for
the semester. If the student's name appears on the final grade sheet
and he/she has not been attending class for more then three class meetings,
then he/she will receive and 'F' as a grade
