The Delta College Basic Peace Officer Academy is certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) to present a basic course to peace officers and pre-service students who qualify for program admission. This course is designed for basic entry-level training for the student preparing for a position as a Reserve Officer, Peace officers, and Deputy Sheriff’s assigned to patrol.
The POST Academy is a unique program as it is presented in an “extended” format. Classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:45pm to 10:00pm, on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:45am to 5:00pm, and on some Fridays. The Academy is in session for approximately nine months, once yearly, January through September. This type of format allows students to continue their employment and take care of personal obligations without interruptions.
If you are interested in attending the "intensive" format, check the POST website at http://www.post.ca.gov/basic-training-academies.aspx for a list of presenters.
The Academy mission is to prepare students mentally, morally, emotionally and physically to perform the duties of a peace officer. Rigorous training and testing ensures that each student graduates with demonstrated character, knowledge of the law, problem-solving abilities, human relations, communication and physical skills needed to meet the professional standards of a peace officer. Discipline is an essential component of the Academy program to help students develop the attitudes and behaviors demanded of peace officers by the public that they serve.
The Delta College POST Academy works in partnership with police and sheriff’s departments throughout an eight county region.
