This course is an introduction to the Spanish language and Spanish
cultures. Emphasis is placed on the following skills in the order given:
listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

awareness through the discussion of Hispanic cinema. The student views and
discusses hispanic films from early twentieth century to the present. The
course analyzes movies as cultural artifacts and pays special attention to the
relationship between cinema and the historical circumstances that surround its
