AFFIRM: Unity, Integrity, and Personal Growth: Would you like to be a part of a learning community that focuses on unity, cultural and academic integrity, and personal growth? If so, the AFFIRM learning community is the place to be! This learning community is designed to support the retention and transfer of African American students. However, this learning community is open to ALL students who believe they can benefit from, and be enriched by, a learning experience focused on African American history, utilizing the power of the written word and cultural empowerment. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Making Sense of the Criminal Justice System: Interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice? Simply want to learn how the criminal justice system impacts our daily lives? In AJ 21 students will gain a broad understanding of the administration of justice in America, with a special emphasis on the theories of crime, punishment, and rehabilitation. In ENG 1A, students’ criminal justice knowledge will be applied and enhanced through various readings and assignments. Join this learning community and explore issues such as the following: What is crime? Why does it happen? How does society deal with criminals? Who Am I, Where Am I Going, and How Do I Get There?:Are you undecided about your major and career goal? This learning community will emphasize self-assessment, career exploration, and informational interviewing through assessment tests such as the Myers-Briggss, Strong Interest Inventory, True Colors, and other group activities. We will use the career resource library to explore the world of work and link majors to careers. Students will learn how to network and develop career contacts within the community by conducting informational interviews.
