AFFIRM: Unity, Integrity, and Personal Growth: Would you like to be a part of a learning community that focuses on unity, cultural and academic integrity, and personal growth? If so, the AFFIRM learning community is the place to be! This learning community is designed to support the retention and transfer of African American students. However, this learning community is open to ALL students who believe they can benefit from, and be enriched by, a learning experience focused on African American history, utilizing the power of the written word and cultural empowerment. EOPS Student Success Academy: The EOPS Student Success Academy (SSA), a semester long learning community for first time Extended Opportunity Programs and Services eligible college students with fewer than 12 units completed, offers an educationally supportive learning experience which nurtures the skills, strategies, attitudes, and behaviors that enhance student success. Exploring Children’s Literature through Reading and Writing: Are you interested in a career working with children? In our learning community you will explore the world of childhood—all while developing your reading and writing skills. You will learn about children’s books and activities that encourage literacy in young children. You will examine fairy tales, modern stories, and children’s poetry. You will also examine how girls and boys develop their identities through the stories they hear. Make a difference in a child’s future success in school and life. Healthy Choices: Reading and Writing Your Way to Healthy Living: Want to ensure a vigorous start to your Delta College experience? Whether you’re pursuing a career in health sciences or simply seeking a healthy lifestyle, this learning community will explore ways to nourish your mind, body, relationships, and more. Math Teacher Pipeline Program: The Teacher Pipeline Program/TAP learning community supports students on a pathway to becoming a math teacher in middle school or high school. Students in this community will have an opportunity for paid work experience. Contact Dr. Charles Jennings at 954-5040 for more information.



Moving Forward in Early Childhood Education: Are you interested in teaching or working with young children?  Being able to communicate effectively with children, their parents, your coworkers, and your supervisors is essential for the best opportunities in this career area. Enroll in this innovative learning community to streamline your pathway. You will complete one course in the major as well as Preparatory English using content directly from the child development course and the workplace. By doing some work in the classroom and some work outside of the classroom (hybrid course), you will complete 8 units while being on campus just two days a week. Contact Professor Angela Beyer, CDEV Instructor, at abeyer@deltacollege.edu.

Science Fact Not Science Fiction: Want to explore the experimental side of becoming a scientist? In this learning community, students will evaluate their own past experiences in science, pose scientific inquiries, and examine various questions that scientists are currently researching. Through hands-on activities, the reading of scientific articles, and the writing of scientific journals, your journey into the world of science and research will unfold.
