Student Chef Restaurant

Welcome to the Student Chef Restaurant. This restaurant is staffed and operated entirely by Culinary Arts students. During the course of their first semester, students rotate between food production and guest service assignments.

During their second semester, students receive supervisory assignments within the food production and guest service areas. All of the food is prepared fresh daily, including all pastries.

Students enrolled in the Restaurant Operations classes spend 17 hours per week in labs and a number of additional hours outside of class satisfying demand for projects and assignments related to their lessons.

During a typical day of restaurant operation, 50 to 60 guests are served lunch in 75 minutes. Often that number will reach 70 guests.

There are many other classes that they are required to fulfill to earn their degree or certificate as well. They include: Sanitation and Safety, Menu Planning, Purchasing, Foodservice Management, Garde Manger, Baking, Beverage Management, Introduction to the Hospitality Industry and others.

The Culinary Arts Program at San Joaquin Delta College is just one of seven programs in the state to earn the prestigious "Accreditation" through the America Culinary Federation. I am pleased to announce the reopening of The Student Chef restaurant for the spring 2003 semester. The Student Chef is open Wednesdays andThursdays.

The hours of operation will be between 11:15 am to 12:30 pm. The restaurant is located in Danner 108. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us each Wednesday and Thursday during the semester.
