Delta Business Division offers a number of degrees and opportunities for career direction.
A.A. -- A student may earn an Associate in Arts degree
with a major in any one of the fields of business. The basic requirements for the degree must be met as well as
the requirements for the major. It is recommended tht A.A. degree students also complete a certificate program
in a specialized area. The requirements for the major may be met in several ways.
A.S. -- A new Associate in Science degree will soon be offered in
Accounting,
Office Management
and Computer Science.
Certificates -- A Certificate Program is a group of courses specifically selected for a definite
occupational goal generally requiring a year or less of concentrated training. Certificates can provide the
student with specialized occupational curriculum as well as fulfill the "major" requirements for the A.A.
degree. Certificates fulfill other requirements as well, such as the state course requirements for the real
estate sales person's or broker's license, and will help to verify to an employer that job candidates have
actual job skills.
Requirements -- Each course (or a substitute approved by the Division Curriculum Committee) must be completed with a grade of C or better. Equivalent courses may be accepted by tranfer from other colleges, but at least 12 units of the certificate requirements must be completed at San Joaquin Delta College.
Applications for Certificates -- Applications must be made at the Business Division Office within the first six weeks of the semester that requirements are to be completed and/or the certificate is awarded.
Recommendations -- It is strongly recommended that non-transfer business students select a certificate goal as soon as possible upon entering the college. Although certificates may be earned and granted independently, it is recommended that the student consider acquiring the Associate in Arts degree with a certificate major.
Transfer -- Students who wish to transfer to a four-year university will find many courses that are transferable. Check with the Counseling Office for more information.
