Head Volleyball Coach Michaela Reyes

Head Coach, Michaela Reyes

Michaela is entering her fourth season as the head volleyball coach for the Delta Lady Mustangs. As a first year coach, she enjoyed a high level of success after guiding the Lady Mustangs to another Big 8 Conference championship. They entered the State Volleyball Tournament as the number one seed, having won all of their games up to the state tournament. They were ranked #1 in Northern California after beating all of the top teams in the north and winning all of the tournaments they participated in, including the prestigious San Diego Mesa Invitational. She was named Coach of the Year for the Big 7 Conference and later named Coach of the Year for Northern California.

In her first three seasons, coach Reyes has enjoyed the competition of the tough Big 8 Conference. All three of her teams have advanced to the Northern California Volleyball Championships. All three years her teams won the first round of the Northern California Volleyball Championships. In her first two seasons, her teams advanced to the prestigious California State Volleyball Championships. In 2008, her team lost a tough match to Fresno City College in the fifth set narrowly missing a third straight trip to the State Championships. Two of her players have achieved All American status. As a result of a strong academic emphasis in her program, her athletes have a high transfer and graduation rate.

Before coming to Delta, Michaela enjoyed a high level of success at her previous stops.  She coached high school volleyball at St. Mary’s High School in Stockton for the 2004 and 2005 seasons where her teams were undefeated in their conference play. She also enjoyed success at the club level both in Stockton and in San Diego. She spent two years officiating college men’s and women’s volleyball in the San Diego area.

Michaela began playing at the age of 10 on a 14 and under club in Stockton. Having been a 4 year varsity starter on her Tokay High School volleyball team, she earned a Division I scholarship to San Diego State University where she played 4 years including one in which her team qualified for the sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. While at San Diego State, she was involved in developmental clinics with the San Diego youth in the off season. In 2004, Michaela moved back to Stockton to take a teaching position at St. Mary's High School, and she coached the Sophomore volleyball team. The two seasons she coached at St. Mary's, her sophomores were undefeated in their conference.

Coach Reyes believes that sports in general and volleyball in particular provide opportunities that have a positive effect on the academic progress of those who participate. Her goal as a coach is to help develop her student-athletes on and off the court.  Her focus is to prepare her athletes for transfer and assist them towards earning an athletic scholarship.
