Saturday, April 25
State Championships
Jordan Litz claims 3rd state title & 5th school record with a dominating Day 3 performance at State JC Championships. Jordan won the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:04.30. Jordan also led off the 400 Free relay (3:10.80) which placed 9th overall and set a new school record. Kevin Walton, Alex Bean, and Paul Woodruff all put in lifetime best swims to establish the new relay mark. The men's team finished 12th overall in team competition with 120 points. Women's competition ended with the Delta squad ranking 15th with 54 points. Candance Valenzuela won the consolation heat of 100 Breaststroke and placed 9th overall with a time of 1:07.89.

State Championships
Jordan Litz raced twice & sets four school records!!! In claiming his 2nd state title in as many days, Jordan won the 400 IM with a school record time of 3:55.31. In the process, Jordan's first 100 yards set a new school record in the 100 Fly (52.08). Likewise, Jordan's lead off leg (1:44.37) of the 800 Free Relay broke the 200 Free school record & and the relay of (Litz, Paul Woodruff, Kevin Walton, & Joe Greisen) smashed the old school record by over 7 seconds. Establishing the new time standard at 7:03.25. The Women's team had an excellent day as well with strong performances by Candance Valenzuela and Amanda Carter. Amanda placed 9th overall in the 3 Meter Diving competition with a score of 177.20. Candance placed 5th overall in the 50 Breaststroke with a time of 31.01. Candy's prelim swim of 30.53 set a new school record, and was the second fastest time swum at the meet. Unfortunately, Candy's speed suit ripped at prelims and she was not able to wear it at finals. However, Candy has established herself as one of the top Breast/IM competitors for JC next year. The Mustangs will be back in action tomorrow on Day 3 of the State Championships. Highlights will be Litz going after a third individual title in the 200 Breast and Valenzuela going for a title in the 100 Breast.

State Championships
Delta posted a great Day 1 at the California Jr. College State Swimming & Diving Championships. All Delta competitors scored points and help to set a great tone for the rest of the three day competition. Amnada Carter placed 10th in 1 Meter Diving with a score of 164.25. The Men's 400 Medley Relay (Joe Greisen, Jordan Litz, Kevin Walton, & Paul Woodruff) placed 14th with a time of 3:37.48, while the Men's 200 Free Relay (Woodruff, Litz, Walton, & Alex Bean) placed 11th and set a new school record with a time of 1:26.36. Candy Valenzuela placed 4th overall in the 100 IM with a time of 1:00.58. However, the highlight of the meet was Jordan Litz claiming a state title in the 200 IM. Jordan set a new school record in the process with a time of 1:50.66. The Mustangs will go back in the pool tomorrow with chance to break more records and earn more state titles on Day 2 of the State Championship Swim & Dive Meet.

Amanda Carter placed 2nd overall in the Women's 1 Meter Diving Copetition & 5th overall on the 3 Meter Board. With this impressive finish, Amanda has qualified for the State Diving Championships in Long Beach April 23-25. Anson Skaggs placed 22nd (1M) & 23rd (3M).

Sprint Pentathlon
Delta swimmers Jordan Litz and Candy Valenzuela earn MVP awards at Sprint Pentahlon. Jordan wins 200 IM and 100 Breast events while Candy wins 100 IM & 50 Breast. All swimmers competed in five events (IM, Fly, Bk, Br, & Fr.) The swimmer with the lowest aggregate time from the five events become the MVP. Delta placed 2nd place in the team competition.

Solano Invitational
Delta College Men's Swimming Team successfully defended its' 2008 Solano Invitational Championship, by winning the 2009 title. Jordan Litz won five individual events (100 Back, 200 Breast, 400 IM, 200 IM, and the 100 Breast) and earned high point honors, while collecting an impressive 100 points on the day. The Mustangs tallied 562.50 points in the team effort, 105.50 points ahead of second place Chabot College. The Aqua Mustangs are back in action on Friday at the Merced College Time Trails at 2pm.

vs. Sierra College
Paul Woodruff lead the Mustangs against Big 8 powerhouse Sierra College on Saturday, winning the 1650 Free (17:44.41) and the 100 Free (49.43) events. Amanda Carter also put in quality performances in the 1 M dive (1st place - 207.90) and 3 M dive events (2nd place - 221.90). Amanda's score in the 3 M Dive competition was 3.55 points off the school record. Amanda and the Women's Team will not be in action until the Merced Time Trials on Friday, April 3rd. Paul and the Men's Team will swim this weekend at the Solano Invitational. The Delta Men's team is the defending Solano Invite champions.

vs. Shasta
The Men's and Women's teams went 2-1 over the weekend. On Friday, in a double dual meet, the Mustangs beat COS and lost to Meced . On Saturday, Delta beat Shasta College 54-44 (W) and 70-41 (M). Jordan Litz continued his dominating performance with 3 individual wins & 3 relay wins over the weekend. On Friday night Jordan missed the school record in the 500 free by 9 tenths of a second with a winning time of 4:52.94. On Saturday, his 200 free time of 11:46.00 was a half second off the scholl mark. Jordan and the rest of the Aqua Mustangs will back in action next Saturday versus Sierra College at 11am at Delta.

Cuesta Invitational
Delta accumulated 316 points in the Cuesta invitational over the weekend. Top performer Jordan Litz, while scoring 54 individual points, placed 1st in the 200 Free (1:46.05 - 1.48 sec off the school record) 2nd in the 200 Fly (1:58.32) and 3rd in the 500 Free (4:54.07 - 2.00 sec off the school record). Candy Valenzuela scored 52 individual points, while winning the 50 Breast (32.14), earning 2nd place in the 100 IM (1:03.32), and 4th place in the 50 Fly (28.29 - .58 sec off the Delta Record). Delta is back in action next weekend with a Double Dual Meet on Friday versus College of the Sequios & Merced College. They will follow-up with a Saturday matinee versus Shasta College.

vs. Sacramento City
Delta Women posted a dominant performance on Thursday, beating Sac City 72-33. Delta men's team lost to Sac City 52-53. Coach Maroney on the dual meet vs. Sac city, "It is obvious that our team is moving in the right direction and gaining confidence. We are proud of our recent races, but realize their is much to do before conference championships." Candy Valenzula and Lindsay Smith both had 3 wins apiece, while Jordan litz had 3 wins for the men's team. Delta is back in the pool March 6-7 at the Cuesta Invitational. "It will be good for the team to get a taste of a two day invite, and we should be producing many seasonal best times in San Luis Obispo." said Coach Maroney.

Delta Men's Swim Team lost a dual meet today to ARC, in which the final was not determined until the last event of the meet. Delta lost 49.5 to 58.5. Commenting on the performance, Coach Maroney said, "We really needed to win the 200 Medley Relay. We got out touched by the slimmest of margins, and it is hard to lose that way. We made little errors on starts, turns, and exchanges in the relays on both the guys' and girls' teams, and that was the difference in the meet. We will go back to practice making sure we work on those little (but important) aspects of the sport." The women's team lost 34-78 and had some stellar swims as well. Candy Valenzuela won the 100 Breaststroke (1:13.65) and the 100 IM (1:04.73). Amanda Carter won the 1M and 3M boards with scores of (193.95 & 212.85). Lindsay Smith placed first in the 1000 with a time of 12:24.93. The Men's team had six first place finishes. Jordan Litz won three individual events; 200 Free (1:48.78) 200 Fly (1:58.72) 200 Breaststroke (2:11.45), Anson Skaggs won both diving events 1M (126.25) 3M (169.95), and Kevin Walton won the 200 Backstroke (2:11.13). The Aqua Mustangs are back in the pool Thursday, Feb 26 at 2:30pm in a home dual meet vs. Sac City.

vs. Santa Rosa
Delta Men's & Women's Swim Teams had their first setback versus Santa Rosa College on Friday night. The defending State (w) and Big 8 Champs (m&w) showed they are looking to repeat as they took down Delta 98-13 (m) and 94-18 (w). Outstanding performers of the meet include; Paul Woodruff's 1st place finish in the 100 Fr (49.82), Amanda Carter's 2nd place finish in 1m Diving (182.25), and Candy Valenzula 1st place in the 50 Breaststroke (33.07). Delta is back in action Feb 24 in a dual meet vs. American River College. The meet will take place at 1:30pm @ ARC in Sacramento.

NorCal Relays - @ Santa Rosa
The Women's team traveled out to Santa Rosa to begin the '09 campaign, and ended up with an impressive 4th place finish out of 10 teams. Captains Candy Valenzula (Fr - Lodi HS -Linden, CA) and Lindsey Smith (Fr - Lincoln HS - Stockton, CA) lead all Delta scorers with 5.5 points at the meet. Captain Annette Estlin (Fr - Consumes River College - Galt, CA) and Anna Koch (Fr - St. Mary's College Prep - Stockton, CA) each scored 5 points respectively. Natalie Hoyt (Fr - North Salinas HS - Salinas, CA), Hayley Kriss (Fr - St. Mary's College Prep - Stockton, CA), and Kasie McCalister (Fr - Argonaut HS - Pine Grove, CA) all swam three personal best times at the meet. Delta (H. Estlin, M. Davis, K. Mangrich, L. Rohrbach) placed 3rd in the Bill Anttila 250 Relay, which was the highest Delta finish in the meet. Bill Anttila is the legendary Delta College Swimming and Water Polo coach who began the programs at Delta back in the 1940's, when it was known as Stockton College. On a separate not, Coach Anttila turns 90 this week, and all current and past Delta aquatic athletes and fans wish him a Happy Birthday!! "It was really neat to know that a huge invitational honors one of Delta's past coaches. I am proud to place in the event that bears his name." Holly Estlin on swimming in the Anttila Relay.
