Tony Troncale has been the Head Coach for the Men’s Golf Team since 2008, leading them to the Big 8 Conference Championship in 2010. Tony was the assistant men’s coach for five years and he is also the head coach of the Delta College Women’s Golf Team. As a PGA Professional, both teams benefit from the guidance Tony provides from his extensive background in golf. He is a life member of the PGA of America with over twenty-five years of teaching and coaching experience. Being a coach for the community college golf teams furthers his long-time career in golf and provides an opportunity for the players to work with a PGA Professional.
Tony has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Point Loma University in San Diego. Tony was a four-year letterman in both golf and basketball. Although he was recruited for basketball and played four years, the Head Basketball Coach who was also the Assistant Golf Coach played nine holes with Tony while on a basketball trip and encouraged Tony to join the golf team and ended up playing four years on the golf team as well. After college, Tony played in a few amateur golf events with some success and was encouraged to turn pro. In 1984, Tony moved to Stockton and soon after became an Assistant Golf Professional. In January 1989, Tony received the honor of becoming a Class "A" PGA Golf Professional.
As a PGA Professional, Tony must participate in the PGA Professional Development Program to maintain his Class A status. Tony attends Teacher/Player Development Programs regularly with such notable instructors as Hank Haney, David Ledbetter, and Jim McLean. Troncale views continuing education imperative as a golf instructor to ensure he is providing up-to-date, state of the art, teaching techniques to his students.
Coaching at the collegiate level is a natural progression for Tony who has been around sports his entire life. Tony played several sports while growing up, and while in High School he focused on Basketball and was voted a High School All American, and voted into his High School's Hall of Fame as he broke and still holds several school records. His introduction to golf came during the off-season with his Dad and friends playing golf and spending time at the driving range. At that time, playing competitive golf was the farthest thing from his mind.
