The Delta Team celebrates as three sophomores- Shaunna Ridge, Ashley Brown and Lindsey Saffold commit to play Division I basketball in Fall 2008. Lindsey Saffold is commited to University of Oregon and will join the Duck family this summer. Shaunna Ridge and Ashley Brown will be teammates at San Jose State.

DELTA FALLS TO PASADENA 52-48 IN THE ELITE 8. THE MUSTANGS HELD PASADENA TO THEIR SEASON-LOW OF 52 POINTS BUT COULDN'T FIND THEIR RHYTHMN ON OFFENSE. The Mustangs finish the season 30-7. Lindsey Saffold is named Big 8 Conference MVP and to the California State 1st Team. Shaunna Ridge joins Lindsey on the Big 8 All-Conference team and was honored as a member of the California State 3rd Team. DELTA ADVANCES TO THE CALIFORNIA STATE ELITE 8 FOR THE 4TH CONSECUTIVE SEASON. THE MUSTANGS TO FACE PASADENA CITY COLLEGE- PASADENA GAVE THE MUSTANGS THEIR LAST LOSS IN DECEMBER 12/28/07 89-79 AT THE JAGUAR INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT DELTA BEAT MERCED 65-50 IN THE 2ND ROUND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MATCHUP LIndsey Saffold scored a team-high 18 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and handed off 4 assists. Freshman Jessica Cervantes hit 4 3-pointers in the first half finishing with 15 points and Patrice Hunter scored 12. The Mustangs (#5) will face DeAnza College (#13) at Delta this Saturday 3/8 at 7pm. DeAnza upset #4 San Francisco last Friday 2/29 to make it to the 3rd Round of Northern California. The winner advances to the California State Tournament at University of Pacific 3/13. The Mustangs look to advance to their 4th consecutive State Tournament appearance. - See Article DELTA FACES MERCED COLLEGE IN THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA PLAYOFFS THIS SATURDAY AT 7PM IN BLANCHARD GYM AT DELTA - Playoff Bracket DELTA BEATS MODESTO JC TO FINISH CONFERENCE 14-0 Delta beats the Pirates 60-49 despite shooting a low 32% from the field. Lindsey Saffold led the Mustangs with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Patrice Hunter finished with 11 points and Shaunna Ridge had 10 points and 9 rebounds for the night. Point guard Jessica Dela Cruz handed off 4 assists and had 8 rebounds along with fellow starter Andrea Rodgriguez. The Mustangs will find our their Northern California playoff seed Monday, February 26th. --2/22/08 DELTA CLINCHES THEIR 7TH CONSECUTIVE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH WIN OVER SIERRA 67-48 Lindsey Saffold led the Mustangs to a first half 37-19 lead scoring 18 points in the first half. The Mustangs' defense controlled the game forcing Sierra to 32% shooting and to 48 points. Delta had a team win with 11 players scoring and 7 different players hitting behind the arc. DELTA BEATS SANTA ROSA 70-64 TO REMAIN UNBEATEN IN THE BIG 8 CONFERENCE Lindsey Saffold led the Mustangs with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Jessica Dela Cruz finished with 15 points and Natalie Montes had 11. The sophomores celebreated sophomore night with a much needed win to hang on to 1st place in the Big 8 Conference. Box Score -2/14/08 LADY MUSTANGS BEAT SACRAMENTO CITY 85-49 TO MAINTAIN BIG 8 CONFERENCE LEAD Delta held Sacramento to 13 points in the first half and 10% shooting from the field. Lindsey Saffold led the Mustangs with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Shaunna Ridge scored 12 points and Natalie Montes finished with 11. The Mustangs shot a season-high 57% from the field and held Sac City 26% shooting. Shaunna Ridge anchored the defense with 5 blocks. DELTA BLOWS BY CONSUMNES RIVER, MAINTAINING NUMBER ONE IN THE BIG 8 Lindsey Saffold lead the team with 17 points, followed by Shauna Ridge throwing in 8 points, 12 rebounds and 2 tips and Ashante Reid coming off the bench scrapping up her 8 points through her amazing defensive play. Delta now stands number one in the Big 8 conference, 3rd in Nor Cal and 5ht in the State. Mustangs play Diablo Valley College Friday, February 8 away at 6pm. DELTA BEAT AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE 70-58 TO MAINTAIN THE BIG 8 CONFERENCE LEAD. Lindsey Saffold scores a game-high 25 points and Shaunna Ridge grabs 12 boards to lead the Mustangs. Delta faces Cosumnes River College Tues. 2/5 at 8pm at Blanchard Gym in Stockton. - 2/4/08 Box Score LADY MUSTANGS RANKED #5 STATEWIDE AND #3 IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA Despite being slightly behind Sierra in power ratings, the Mustangs are voted #3 in Northern California behind #1 Fresno and #2 Foothill in a coaches poll. The Mustangs look to win their 8th straight Big 8 Conference game to hold on to their Conference lead as they travel to American River College for an 8pm game. -2/1/08 DELTA WIN SEVEN STRAIGHT OVER MODESTO JR. COLLEGE 73-56 Mustangs now 7-0 in the Big 8, 21-6 overall still remain undefeated in conference play. Jessica Cervantes led the Mustangs with 15 points scoring 4 out 5 of her 3 pointers in the first half. At half time Mustangs carried the game with a 43 to 24 lead, but with 12:00 minutes left in the game, Delta only led by 12. After gathering back together, with Lindsey Saffold pulling another double-double along with Shaunna Ridge, Delta sped off, finishing the game 73 to 56. Lindsey Saffold led the team with 16 rebounds, 9 defensive boards and 2 charges to bounce the team back on their feet. Ridge scored 14 with 12 boards. Patrice Hunter added her 11 points going 3/7 from the 3 point line. Delta will play at American River College Friday at 8 pm. MUSTANGS BEAT SIERRA COLLEGE 63-54 TO BECOME #1 IN THE BIG 8 Sierra College entered the contest 19-4 overall, sharing the conference lead with Delta (both 5-0). Both teams came out battling hard, ending the half with Delta leading 29-25. The scrappy play illustrated each teams determination to avoid a defeat in Big 8 conference play. Sophmore leadership came through once again for the most vital game of the season thus far. Lindsey Saffold led her team in scoring with 17 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Saffold fearlessly attacked the basket, converting 9 of her 12 freethrows. Shaunna Ridge provided another double-double for her team with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ridge's defensive efforts forced pressure on the Sierra shooters as she had 6 steals and 5 blocks. Though Sierra had 3 players in double figures, Delta's defensive pressure prevented any other players from contributing, holding the rest of the team under 8 points. The Mustangs slipped away in the second half to become the lone leaders in the Big 8 conference. The Mustangs will defend their conference lead against Big 8 newcomer Modesto Jr. College on January 29th in the Blanchard Gymnasium. Tip off will be at 6:00 PM. THE LADY MUSTANGS IMPROVE TO 4-0 IN BIG 8 CONFERENCE PLAY Delta entered Santa Rosa's gym with targets on their backs. A month earlier, they had defeated Santa Rosa after erasing a large first half defecit. After several lead changes, the Mustangs pulled out a victory once again. Patrice Hunter led the offensive attack with a game high 20 points going 4 of 5 from three point range. Lindsey Saffold, who hit the game changing three in the previous match, pitched in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Shaunna Ridge showed her versatility with 14 points, 5 assists, 4 blocks, and 3 steals. Ridge also went perfect from the free throw line, hitting all 7 attempts, and 3 point range, going 1-1. The Mustangs prepare to play the biggest match of the year against conference rivals Sierra College to decide the leader of the Big 8 Conference. Tip off is at 6 pm in the Blanchard Gymnasium. MUSTANGS KEEP ROLLING IN CONFERENCE PLAY Delta's bigs Lindsey Saffold and Shaunna Ridge recorded yet another double-double each against Sacramento City College in Big 8 play. Saffold led the way with a game high 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Ridge pitched in 10 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Delta attacked the basket relentlesly, earning an impressive 15 of 17 from the stripe as a team. Freshmen Natalie Montes and Joyelle Amick pitched in 10 and 8 points respectively to beat Sac City 70-53. Delta will face Santa Rosa away next Tuesday at 6pm. MUSTANGS SLIDE BY DIABLO VALLEY 70-42 Delta manages to overcome their offense struggles through intensity on the defensive end on tonight’s match up against the Eagles. Mustangs held Diablo Valley 25% from the field. Lindsey Saffold scored 12 points and grabbed 11 boards, also perfect from the three-point line going 2 for 2. Ashley Brown chipped in 10 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Jessica Cervantes and Shaunna Ridge scored 9 each. Next match up Mustangs will face Sac City at Consumnes River College this Friday. DELTA WINS BIG 8 OPENER AGAINST AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE 71-54. Patrice Hunter led the Mustangs with 14 points and Ashley Brown added 12. Lindsey Saffold and Shaunna Ridge had 14 and 11 rebounds each for Delta. The Mustangs face Cosumnes River College Friday at 6pm in Elk Grove. Jessica Dela Cruz sparked the poor shooting Mustangs in the first half with 3 3-point shots to give Delta the advantage going into the half. LADY MUSTANGS ARE 14-6 GOING INTO BIG 8 CONFERENCE PLAY The Mustangs face a tough challenge defending their conference title with a balanced league and the addition of Modesto JC to the Big 8. The Mustangs open against American River College on January 8th at 8pm in Blanchard Gym. Delta beat American River in a pre-season match (77-61 on Nov. 10). The Mustangs enter conference play ranked #6 in the NorCal Polls and #10 in the state poll.
