Women's Basketball Updates
12-4-09 The Mustangs led 28-16 at the half holding Sac City to 14% field goal shooting. Delta was sparked by sophomore Tempest Dawson in the 2nd half coming off the bench scoring 10 points and grabbing 8 boards. Jordan Baca led the Mustangs with 11 points. Delta will face Reedley College on Saturday, December 5th at 12 noon for the Consolation semi-final game at College of Sequoias.
12-3-09 Delta College trailed by 10 in the 1st half to cut the lead to five points at halftime. The Mustangs made a 5-0 run with 6:36 to take the lead. Riverside outrebounded Delta 57-46 and were able to convert key putbacks late in the game. Vintea Georges led all Mustangs with 13 rebounds with 7 at the offensive end of the floor. Gabby Munsch led Delta with 13 points while Vintea Georges and Lanajia Ernest had 12 and 11 points each. The Mustangs face league opponent Sacramento City College in the Consolation bracket at 6pm on Friday, December 4th at Central Christian High School.
11-19-09 The Lady Mustangs out rebounded the Renegades 48-34 with starter Vintea Georges grabbing a team-high of 8 rebounds. Freshman Gabby Munsch scored a team-high of 14 points despite fouling out and only playing 19 minutes for Delta. Sylvonya Moore and Vintea Georges both contributed with 11 and 10 points to help the Mustangs maintain a lead throughout the duration of the game. The Mustangs had 5 different players hand off 3 assists for a team total of 21 assists for the game: Sophomore Sylvonya Moore (3) and freshmen Jazmin Gutierrez (3), Jordan Baca (3), Gabby Munsch (3) and Charisse Williams (3). Lanajia Ernest continues to be a team leader in steals leading Delta with 3. Delta had a difficult time slowing down Sophomore Jasmine Rubin who finished with 28 points. Delta will have a break before traveling to the Bay Area to face Skyline College on Monday, November 30th at 5:30 pm after Thanksgiving break.
11-14-09 Delta lost to conference rival Santa Rosa (80-74) in the battle for 3rd place at Merced College. Delta rallied in the final 5 minutes of the game after losing their starting center Gabby Munsch and reserve forward Andrea Hernandez fouling out with five fouls each. The Mustangs allowed Santa Rosa to shoot 41 free throws and they converted 75% of their attempts. Vintea Georges finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Mustangs. Sophomore Lanajia Ernest handed off 9 assists and finished with 11 points for the game. The Mustangs will travel to Ohlone College in Fremont on Thursday, November 19th at 5pm.
11-12-09 Delta (#1) beats San Jose City (#6) in the opening round of the Coca Cola Classic at Merced College 73-63. The Mustangs struggled on the boards which allowed the Jaguars to keep the game close. Despite allowing 22 offensive rebounds, the Mustangs forced 33 Jaguar turnovers. Lanajia Ernest led the Mustangs with 14 points and 6 assists. Melody Ladrido scored 12 points and Jordan Baca hit 3 3-points to finish with 10 points. The Mustangs will face Fresno City College tonight at 5pm in the semi-finals at Merced College. Fresno beat Sac City last night 57-42. The Rams are ranked #4 in Northern California.
11-12-09 Delta opens their 2009-10 season this Thursday at 2:00 pm in the opening round of the Coca-Cola Classic at Merced College against #8 San Jose City College. San Jose finished 18-15 last season and will look to avenge their pre-season losses to the Lady Mustangs.
