Women's Basketball repeat as Big 7 Champions.

Delta Sophomores sign National Letter of Intents to play basketball next season. Jazz Herrera and Ashley Kitchen will attend California State University Los Angeles next season. Sophomore shooter Samantha Oelsner will attend California State University Chico this fall. Both Chico and CSULA are members of the CCAA and will face each other in conference play.

The Delta team celebrates on May 16th as Sam Oelsner (Cal State University Chico), Ashley Kitchen and Jazz Herrera (Cal State Univ. Los Angeles) make official commitments to accept athletic scholarships for the fall Necolia Simmon is named to the Women's Basketball Association/Kodak junior college first-team All-American. Simmons is the first Delta player to be named to the prestigious All-American team. She was two-time state co-player of the year at Delta College. Simmons helped lead the Mustangs to two consecutive state tournment appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2005-06. She averaged 16.2 points and 8.8 rebounds. Simmons signed a National Letter of Intent to attend The University of San Francisco in the fall. See Article
Delta loses in quarterfinals of State Tournament to Canyons 86-75. Necolia Simmons lead Delta with 20 points and finished with 14 rebounds. Shauna Ridge chipped in 17 points and shot 4-7 from beyond the arc. The Mustangs (North #2) couldn't seem to find there groove from the tip. Delta made the first two points of the game and that was the only time they saw the lead. Nothing seemed to go right for the Mustangs and the Cougars capitalized on every mistake. The Cougars (South #3) shot and outstanding 55% from the floor in the second half and 45% for the game. Canyons also out-rebounded the Mustangs by a margin of 53-45. and Necolia Simmons lead Delta past Contra Costa to advance to state tournament in
Fresno. Each finished with 13 points, while Simmons added 9 rebounds. Lindsey
Saffold finished the night with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Jazz Herrera chipped
in with a game-high 13 rebounds. Delta out-rebounded Contra Costa by a margin of
61-47. The Mustangs will open the state tournament against Canyons at 1pm Friday,

State Tournament Information Simmons leads Delta over Shasta in North Cal Regional Playoffs 81-58. See article Necolia Simmons lead all scores with 17 points, while grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead with an 11-0 start. Things didn't slow down there for Delta as they went into halftime with a 43-17 lead. Lindsey Saffold added 11 points, while Sam Oelsner hit 4 three pointers and ended with 12 points. Jazz Herrera scored 10 points to close the double digit scoring for the Mustangs. Necolia Simmons lead all scores with 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Sam Oelsner chipped in with 13 and 5 rebounds. Janae Young and Rachel Montes each scored 10 points off the bench to give Delta a spark. Oelsner hit three from beyond the arc. Delta out-rebounded Cosumnes by 7 and had 18 team assists. The Mustangs got off to a slow start Tuesday night and took a 25-22 halftime lead. Delta was lead by Necolia Simmons who scored 18 points and grabbed a team high 9 rebounds. Janae Young and Jazz Herrera each pulled down 8 rebounds to help the Mustangs to victory. Shaunna Ridge lead all assists with 5. Delta out-rebounded Sac City by a 50-37 margin. See article Delta was handed it's first loss of conference play Friday night to Sierra. Necolia Simmons lead all scores with 25 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Denelle Baker chipped in 10 points, while Jazz Herrera and Shauna Ridge each added 9 rebounds. Delta out-rebounded Sierra by a 51-45 margin. But the Mustangs (24-4, 7-1 Big 7) struggled from the freethrow line only making 35-56 attempts. The Wolverines made 17 freethrows in the second half and 7 in overtime, while Delta missed 5 in the overtime period. Delta also had 24 turnovers. The Mustangs advance to 7-0 in the Big 7 Conference. Jazz Hererra grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and Simmons finished with 11. Teammate Lindsey Saffold also pulled down 8 rebounds. See article Delta earns their first key victory of the Big 7 Conference beating Santa Rosa 60-58. Despite having a tough time finishing on offense, the Mustangs pulled off the win with Lindsey Saffold scoring a team-high 12 points and Janae Young finishing with 10. Janae Young grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds and Saffold finished with 8. The Bearcubs made an attempt in the final minutes capitalizing on key Mustang turnovers, but Delta held on to start league 1-0. The Mustangs were leading 23-12 in the opening minutes of the game when Necolia Simmons went down with a concussion forcing her to miss the game. Sam Oelsner led the Mustangs with 17 points and freshmen Ashley Brown and Shaunna Ridge scored 15 and 13 respectively. Jazz Herrera (7.7 rpg) is expected to have knee surgery and hopes to return next month. Lindsey Saffold ( 6 rpg, 7 ppg) missed her second game in a row with a broken nose. See box score. The Mustangs celebrate their Championship Win at Blanchard Gym. Janae Young is named Classic MVP along with All-Tournament Mustangs Necolia Simmons and Sam Oelsner. Simmons led the Mustangs in the Championship game with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Delta led 32-13 at the half jumping to an early lead. The Mustangs outrebounded the Owls 55 - 42 with Simmons leading the Mustangs with 15 total boards and 11 offensive rebounds. Shaunna Ridge and Jazz Herrera each grabbed 9 rebounds for the game. Necolia Simmons averaged 21 points per game over the 4 day tournament and 8 rebounds. Delta advances to the Tom Gilcrest Invitational Semi-finals for the 2nd year in a row - 12/1/06 See box score Necolia Simmons led the Mustangs with 25 points to battle Antelope Valley College to a 73-64 win in Visalia. Sam Oelsner and Janae Young pitched in 11 and 10 respectively and Lindsey Saffold grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds. Shaunna Ridge led the Mustangs with 6 steals and also controlled 7 rebounds on the game. The Mustangs watched a 20 point lead with 5 minutes to go dwindle in the remaining minutes but kept their composure down the stretch. Delta is 9-0 with a solid team effort - 11/30/06 Delta beats Porterville College in the opening round of the Tom Gilcrest Invitational Tournament in Visalia 103-30. The Mustangs had five players in double figures and 13 scoring for Delta. Leading scorers were Janae Young 15, Necolia Simmons 14, Denelle Baker 11, Samantha Oelsner 11, and Ashley Brown 10. Rachel Montes, Tiffany Johnson and Janae Young each had team highs of 7 rebounds a piece. Necolia Simmons handed off 7 assists and Jazz Herrera grabbed 4 steals of the Delta team total of 18 for the night. The Mustangs will play Antelope Valley College today at 2pm at College of Sequoias for the 2nd Round.
