Mission Statement Delta Baseball Staff: Our mission is to prepare our student athletes academically and athletically for a successful transition to a four year school and into our community.
In just 4 seasons, Coach Peters and his staff have been to the California Community College State Championship twice winning in in 2011 and finishing second in 2009. During that time there have been 5 drafted players, 18 Division 1 transfers, 17 Division 2 transfers and 11 NAIA transfers.
With the rennovation of Nick Cecchetti Field, the Mustangs now have the nicest facility in California. The synthetic "FieldTurf" field allows the Mustangs to practice and play when other teams cannot.
Head Coach Reed Peters has been named Coach of the Year five times including the NCAA Mountain West Conference in 2002. Coach Peters has also played seven years of professional baseball. Pitching Coach Denny Peterson has coached at UOP.
The Mustangs compete in the best conference in California. Since its inception in 2006, the Big 8 Conference has had the highest power rating of all the conferences in California in 4 of the 7 years. It has had the highest rating in Northern California every year for the past seven seasons. The Big 8 has sent 7 teams to the Final Four in the last 6 years and has never had less than 4 teams make the state playoffs. This means you will face great competition on a daily basis.
Being centrally located in California, playing on an all weather field, and playing against top competion attracts many professional scouts and college coaches to the Delta campus. Many big recruiting events such as the Area Code tryouts are held at Nick Cecchetti Field.
Our goal is to prepare you academically and athletically to move on to the next level. Coach Peters' teams have won the California Community College Scholar Team Award twice, compiling team GPA's of 3.41 and 3.12. Delta College ranks 2nd in community colleges in the number of associate degrees earned. Stockton enjoys some of the best weather in the country. The climate for Stockton is temperate, with warm dry days and cool nights in the summer. The average high temperature is 74 degrees. Winter is usually mild with rare freezing temperatures. Some light rain falls during the winter months.
