POST OFFICER ACADEMY ACCEPTANCE INFORMATION
San Joaquin Delta College Basic Peace Officer Academy is certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to present an 846 hour course to law enforcement and pre service students who qualify for admission to the program. Students earn eighteen (18) units for successful completion of this two-semester course. The course is designed to train individuals who patrol, such as deputy sheriffs and city police.

This unique 20+ hour per week program is presented in an extended format. Classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings 5:45 PM to 10:00 PM and Saturdays and Sundays 7:45 AM to 5:00 PM with occasional Fridays scheduled. The Academy is in session January through October. The Academy is demanding, both physically and academically, discipline is required to establish conduct and attitudes expected of law enforcement officers by the public they serve.
Any person who is eligible to apply for employment as a California peace officer is eligible to apply for entrance into the program. San Joaquin Delta College complies fully with requirements of both the State and Federal government. Upon successful completion of the Academy program, students receive a certificate of completion from Delta College and certification by the California Department of Justice's Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training.
Acceptance Procedure
- Meet the minimum qualifications: at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent or an associate degree or higher; free of any felony convictions or legal mandates that restrict or prohibit employment as a law enforcement officer, and possess a valid California driver's license.
- Complete and pass the multiple choice POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery examination scored by POST and a Report Writing essay examination that assess the ablity to read and write at the levels necessary to perform the job of a peace officer. Testing is offered through the Public Safety Training Center once a month April through August. The next test date is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2008. - Successful candidates who pass the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery and Report Writing essay entrance examination must successfully complete the prerequisite course, AJ 094 Peace Officer Academy Orientation before being accepted to attending the AJ 093 Basic Peace Officer Academy.
- Successful candidates who pass the examination must apply to San Joaquin Delta College as a student by completing the online application for Admission to the College or be a current student in good standing with the college.
- Submitt a copy of a high school diploma or official high school transcripts or any applicable college/university, or GED or CHSP certification upon request. A minimum grade-point average of 2.5 is required for applicable high school coursework. Official documents must be in sealed envelopes. Foreign transcripts are not acceptable.
- All candidates must satisfy the College's assessment placement test requirement.
- Upon request, submit a physical examination by a licensed physician (paid by candidate) and a signed release to fully participate in all aspects of Academy training and testing.
- Complete a felony disclaimer.
- Upon request, show proof of medical insurance.
- Provide a current driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles upon request.
- Upon request, complete a finger print live scan and obtain a DOJ clearance to possess a firearm.
All forms and information regarding registration into AJ 093 will be supplied during the AJ 094 orientation class.
Selection Procedure
Acceptance into AJ 094 Peace Officer Academy Orientation and AJ 093 Basic Peace Officer Academy will be on a "First Come, First Serve Basis". If the number of candidates who earn a passing score on the POST multiple choice and Report Writing essay examination exceeds the maximum class size of seventy (70) a class wait list of 20 candidates will be accepted. Candidates who place himself/herself on the class Wait List will be admitted only with the permission of the Academy instructor. The candidates on the Wait List must attend the first class meeting and be present to be considered for movement from the Wait List to the class.
