POST ACADEMY
The Delta College Basic Peace Officer Academy is certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) to present a basic course to peace officers and pre-service students who qualify for program admission. Students earn 18 units for successful completion of this two semester course. This course is designed to train women and men who patrol, such as Deputy Sheriffs and City Police.

This is a unique program as it is presented in an "extended" format. Classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:45 pm to 10:00 pm , and on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:45 am to 5:00 pm. In addition, a limited number of class meetings are held on Fridays from 7:45 am to 5:00 pm. The Academy is in session for approximately 10 months. This type of format allows persons to continue their employment and take care of personal obligations without interruptions.

The Academy mission is to prepare students mentally, morally, emotionally and physically to perform the duties of a peace officer. Rigorous training and testing ensures each student graduates with the demonstrated character, knowledge, problem-solving abilities, human relations, communication and physical skills needed to meet the professional standards of a peace officer. Discipline is an essential component of the Academy program to help students develop the attitudes and behaviors demanded of peace officers by the public they service.

Any person who is eligible for employment as a California Peace Officer is eligible to apply for entrance into the Academy program. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a Certificate of Completion from Delta College, and are certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, California Justice Department. Including college registration fees of $20 per unit, the approximate cost of the Academy Program is $3,000.
