TAP - Teacher Apprentice Program

The Teacher Apprentice Program (TAP) is an academic program that helps local high school students, talented in the areas of math and science, become high school teachers in their own communities.
High School
- The TAP program begins in high school where students are identified and recruited into the TAP program their junior year.
- As a senior they take an elective period as a Teacher Assistant in math and science classrooms to get hands on teaching experience.
San Joaquin Delta College
- Upon entering Delta College they become apart of the Teacher Preparation Pipeline Program and enter a Learning Community where TAP students from different school districts take their lower division classes together to form a cohort.
- While enrolled at Delta, they work as paid math or science paraprofessionals at their old high schools and receive assistance with college tuition and books.
University of the Pacific
- While enrolled at University of the Pacific the TAP students take their upper division courses and continue to work as paid math or science paraprofessionals and receive assistance with college tuition and book.
IMPACT
- Following completion of a Bachelor’s degree and graduation from college TAP students enter into the district intern program, IMPACT, and take a paid position as a high school math or science teacher while completing the requirements for a single subject teaching credential.
