| Teacher Preparation Pipeline Program | •Home |
Teacher Preparation varies depending on the subject area and grade level you intend to teach. The Teacher Preparation Pipeline Program at San Joaquin Delta College focuses on students who intend to teach in Middle or High School classrooms. The State of California requires that alll new teachers have a BA/BS degree and pass the CBEST and CSET for their subject area. Once You are qualified by subject, you can enroll in a teacher credential program.
Typical Teacher Preparation Pathway
The Following is an Example of a Typical Teacher Preparation Pathway.
1. San Joaquin Delta College
2. Four Year College (e.g. UOP, CSU, UC)
3. Teacher Credential Program
(e.g. San Joaquin County Office of Education, CSU Stanislaus, UOP)
*If the four year college offers an approved Subject Matter Course of Study, you may NOT NEED to take the CSET exam.
Alternate Teacher Preparation Pathways
If you already have a BA/BS degree, you can find classes and workshops in the area to help you prepare for the CBEST and CSET. If additional course work is required, you can complete lower division courses at Delta and upper division courses at a Four Year college.
If you already have an AA/AS degree we can help you contact a representative at the four year college you plan to attend to determine what additional coursework is necessary. You may still find lower division courses at Delta that have been articulated (i.e. specific course content reviewed and accepted as equivalent by another institution) and will apply to your four year degree requirements.
If you are planning to teach K-6, visit Americorps. This is a program at Delta that provides an opportunity to work in elementary school classrooms while they are taking courses at Delta. After completing a certain number of hours, Americorps students are eligible for cash awards that help fund their continuing education.
