Public Shows

Public Shows will be offered 1 weekend a month on Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 PM. The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children, seniors, and students.  For special needs assistance please contact us 48 hours in advance.

The Friday night shows coincide with "Sky Tours" hosted by the Stockton Astronomical Society.  Sky Tours is a star party open to the public where you can observe through telescopes and observe the night sky.  This event is held in the Shima 2 parking lot and is free.  For more information about this and other Stockton Astronomical Society events see their website: http://www.stocktonastro.org/

Secrets of the Sun and California Skies

Come take an intimate look at the role the Sun plays in the life of our solar system. From the nuclear forces churning at the heart of the Sun to the mass ejections of solar material into surrounding space, we experience the power of the Sun and its impact on the planets and ultimately life on Earth. We trace the Sun's life cycle, going back to its beginnings and moving forward in time to its eventual death.

California Skies is a live presentation of the current nighttime sky. You will see the stars, constellations, planets and deep sky objects currently visible. This months show will feature Orion, The Horsehead Nebula, Venus, and Jupiter.

Does life exist anywhere else in the universe? Ancient mythologies and contemporary science fiction have presented imaginative possibilities, but how does modern science approach this question? The Search for Life: Are We Alone? begins to answer this intriguing question in a breathtaking new fulldome video show narrated by Academy Award-nominated actor Harrison Ford.

This month's star show will take you on a trip down under to see the skies of the southern hemisphere.  Come take a look at some stars, constellations and telescopic objects that are never visible from Stockton.  The show will feature our brightest galactic neighbors, The Tarantula Nebula, Canopus, and Mars.

The delicate balance between ice, water and the existence of life has been a topic of scientific inquiry for generations. In travels to the Arctic and Antarctic regions of our planet, we'll examine the exosystems that exist and thrive there and learn how their survival is connected with our own. Beyond Earth, we'll see how the existence of ice shapes the landscape and the natural systems on other planets and moons in our solar system.
